About the Darlington Railway Centre and Museum

Also known as the Head of Steam, this attraction is run by a dedicated team of volunteers, and contains archives of thousands of railway workers who were conscripted to fight in the First World War. The venue also offers an interesting account of the development of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, which opened in 1825 and was used to transport coal from County Durham to southern England.
