3 nights stay. Room was ok, a bit strange that the light switches in the room controlled the bedside and main light switch (they weren’t independent of each other), you either had no lights on or all lights on! We ate in the hotel restaurant on the Saturday, very disappointing, the calamari was luke warm at best. My wife ordered a medium rare steak (@£22), when it arrived it was over cooked (medium to well), so we sent it back to the kitchen, we were then a tad surprised when a waitress came back to us and asked how we would like the new steak cooking as she had looked at the one we’d sent back and she said it was medium rare…!!! My wife and I spend every weekend away on business, we eat out a lot and we know what a medium rare steak looks like….it’s a shame that the kitchen at the Mercure doesn’t know how to cook a medium rare steak. We had ordered drinks with our meals, but they took so long to arrive (I’d finished my main meal and my wife was Half way through her 2nd steak and the drinks had still not arrived !! - we cancelled the order!!) In summary, shocking service, disappointing food….eat somewhere else !! On a positive note, the hotel fire alarm works, it went off at 01:30am…..false alarm apparently!!
