The north of England is packed with glorious holiday destinations, offering up some of the most spectacular natural beauty in Europe. North Yorkshire is the cream of the crop, packed with stately homes, charming medieval towns and numerous National Parks. Among the most popular towns to visit in North Yorkshire is Richmond, commonly described as one of the prettiest and most romantic places in the north. To top it all off, Richmond is home to some superb hotels.

Richmond Attractions

Richmond is one of North Yorkshire's oldest towns, founded by the Normans, but thanks to a golden age in the 18th Century, the town has a strong Georgian identity. Sitting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Richmond is surrounded by glorious countryside, offering pleasant views in every direction.

Richmond Castle is undoubtedly one of the town's highlights. Built in 1086, it's a fine example of a Norman castle. In addition the best views in town, the castle also boasts a fascinating conscientious objectors exhibitions.

Another gem in the town is the Georgian Theatre Royal, which is the UK's most complete theatre from the Georgia era, having been built in 1788.

Traditional Inns

The period feel of Richmond will have visitors looking for some traditional accommodation. Luckily, there's plenty of it in the centre of the town. The Castle Tavern sits in the town's bustling market place and offers a welcoming bar, comfortable rooms and an open fireplace in the lobby.

Exploring the Dales

With the Yorkshire Dales National Park so close-by, visitors to Richmond will be keen to explore. There are a number of excellent places to stay just outside Richmond, many of which offer easy access to the plethora of walking routes in the rural Dales.
