Richmond Attractions

Richmond is one of North Yorkshire's oldest towns, founded by the Normans, but thanks to a golden age in the 18th Century, the town has a strong Georgian identity. Sitting on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Richmond is surrounded by glorious countryside, offering pleasant views in every direction.

Richmond Castle is undoubtedly one of the town's highlights. Built in 1086, it's a fine example of a Norman castle. In addition the best views in town, the castle also boasts a fascinating conscientious objectors exhibitions.

Another gem in the town is the Georgian Theatre Royal, which is the UK's most complete theatre from the Georgia era, having been built in 1788.
