It has some of the best museums in Manchester, packed with artefacts and items of industrial heritage, and the surrounding countryside is simply breath-taking. Anyone interested in Manchester's industrial legacy should make for the Barrow Bridge Village in Bolton to experience how things used to be in these parts when heavy industry was still going strong. The famous 63 steps in Barrow Bridge would have been used on a daily basis by the hundreds of local mill workers who used to live here. One of the pleasant surprises is that the steps will lead you right up to the West Pennine Moors.
