Pocket Guide: Macclesfield Adlington Hall Hotels

Cheshire is one of the great historic English counties, with a rolling and still largely pastoral landscape and some of the loveliest cities in the region, such as Chester. There are many different accommodation options across the county, and when you stay at a Cheshire hotel you're guaranteed to have a wonderful time. If you're bringing the kids along with you they'll be delighted with Gulliver's World and other theme parks, and for adults there are excellent dining and shopping facilities, historic town attractions and a brilliant industrial heritage. There are also lots of important stately homes in Cheshire, such as Adlington Hall in Macclesfield.

Cheshire Hotels for Adlington Hall

Adlington Hall is one of those great country mansions with which England is so well endowed. It was begun in 1315 and is celebrated for its effusive mix of different architectural styles. The magnificent Great Hall dates from 1450-1505, and one of the big attractions of the Hall is the black and white wing from the Elizabethan era, added in 1581. The 1757 Palladian portico and Georgian south front complete the adventurous profile which visitors see as they approach the Hall. Stay at a Cheshire guesthouse or hotel in the vicinity and enjoy the carved beam ceilings and Bernard Smith organ, which was installed in about 1670.

A Day at Adlington Hall from Your Cheshire Hotel

Apart from its architectural riches and deep history, Adlington Hall also has an impressive location between rocky Alderley Edge and the Peak Districts gently rising hills. This is rural England at its finest, and the black and white façade of the Hall is everything visitors expect from a fine Elizabethan mansion. The grounds of the Hall are impressive too, featuring as they do a temple to Diana, much in vogue at the time, and a picturesque cascade with a pool in the shape of a scallop. Water had not flowed here since the late-18th Century until recent restoration restored these features to their former glory. See all of this and more on a trip from your local Cheshire hotel or guesthouse, and have a great day out.
