Blogger Picks: Five Hotels Near European Christmas Markets

“With Christmas around the corner what could be more festive than a European break and a visit to one of the continent’s many festive markets? Blogger Angie Silver, from Silverspoon London, is a big fan, so much so she recommends anyone with a similar enthusiasm for Christmas markets to stay in a hotel that is within easy reach of one. Here are five of her favourites.

Regent Berlin, Berlin
————————–

Regent Berlin is an utterly elegant hotel right in the centre of Berlin. Clad in marble with Biedermeier furnishings and oil paintings, this is a hotel that exudes traditional luxury yet extends a very warm welcome to guests. Its restaurant Charlotte and Fritz is inspired by a stylish Berlin salon and you can expect a casual yet elegant environment and the opportunity to try local food.

Best of all Regent Berlin is located right on the Gendarmenmarkt Square, which, every year, plays host to WeihnachtsZauber, one of the most popular and atmospheric Christmas markets in the city.

Four Seasons Gresham Palace, Budapest
——————————————

Sitting right at the Eastern end of Chain Bridge, the fantastically located Four Seasons Gresham Palace offers a luxurious experience right in the heart of Budapest. The art nouveau palace is quite fit for a princess with a beautifully restored interior that includes two million mosaic tiles, a Preciosa chandelier and gorgeous, ornate columns.

Its restaurant KOLLÁZS is the perfect place to sample “a collage” of contemporary European food. Its Bar and Lobby Lounge, meanwhile, makes for a great pre- or post-dinner drink spot.

There are two city centre Christmas markets in Budapest, and Four Seasons is within easy reach of both. Get your fill of goulash at the Christmas Market on Vorosmarty Square, and check out handicrafts and traditional cuisine at the Budapest Basilica Christmas Fair.

The Dorchester Hotel, London

One of London’s grand dames, and a hotel with true festive spirit, The Dorchester Hotel is a stylish place to stay during your festive break in the UK’s capital. A Christmas-themed afternoon tea in the promenade is the perfect way to take a break from Christmas shopping, while those of you looking for an utterly exquisite gourmet experience will love the three Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester. Also make time for a pampering session in the hotel’s restful spa, and nibble on light bites from The Spatisserie.

The nearest Christmas market to the hotel is London’s famed Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. So much more than a Christmas market, the Winter Wonderland also includes shows, fairground rides and the UK’s biggest outdoor ice rink.

Kimpton De Witt, Amsterdam
——————————-

There are Christmas markets aplenty in the various squares of Amsterdam, with highlights including an ice rink at the Rijksmuseum, The Amsterdam Light Festival and a big Christmas tree on Dam Square.

A great place to stay in order to enjoy all of these festivities is Kimpton de Witt, a modern hotel in Amsterdam’s city centre. You can enjoy a gorgeous experience here, among contemporary décor and original artwork. Don’t miss the 5pm wine hour, either, and book a table at Wyers Restaurant, where chef Sammy D fuses American cuisine with Dutch traditions.
