"They were doing renovation work which started around 10am on Saturday morning. The drilling felt as if it was right next to my room. I spoke to the receptionist who said it had been advised on their website. I booked it via third party so didn’t look at the website. I suggested making people aware with a sign at reception, but nothing done. I am not neurodivergent but that noise would be a nightmare for people who are, the guests should be made aware at reception. Poor from holiday inn express."

"The room wasn’t ready when we turned up so had to wait 2 hours. Guests that complained the most seemed to get complimentary drinks. We didn’t. The reception always seemed busy as usually only one person on duty so you had to queue. The room was tired especially the bathroom. But the hotel although old was charming. Staff great. Breakfast good. The estate fabulous. Would go again as we felt very relaxed."

"A gem. An old YHA hostel and run by the same guy for over thirty years. If you want modern, hi tech, all singing all dancing then go to one of the big chains. If you want quirky, no frills, basic and a classic old hostel experience th3n this place has to be for you. I will certainly return."
