We stayed for 3 night's, very clean hotel and room. Very friendly staff, restaurant is slightly expensive and food portions could be better. But on the whole, I wud recommend the hotel and wud definitely stay there again.

We arrived very late after a delayed flight to Stansted. 24hour reception was very welcome & the staff were happy and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and great value for money.

Lovely riverside location, plenty of parking, and very easy to be able to wheel luggage straight in, all on ground floor so no stairs to negotiate with cases. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. Room with twin beds very comfortable, and although tis room had no window (which was made clear when I booked), this was not a problem, as very good lighting and felt spacious. Actually very cosy. Everything seemed new, super clean throughout, and very comfortable bed. Plenty of storage and...

Stopped here a few times and for an airport hotel, it's one of the better ones. The staff are super friendly and it offers great value for money. The rooms are a little on the cosy side but are well equipped and modern. My only gripe, and this is a personal preference, is that the mattress is too hard and the pillows are not great. One pillow is too low and two pillows is too high. Woke up with a stiff neck and a headache from the pillows. This was sorted out by a lovely hot shower in the modern...

This hotel is very good. It is tucked in the outskirts of Ware. The bedroom (in the attached block) was fairly small (was used as a training centre, so no need for large accommodation) but very comfortable, in fact the best nights sleep in a hotel for some time.
I don’t have an evening meal here, but the breakfast was very nice, and included in the cost.
Overall, highly recommend- I will stay here by choice when I next visit the area.

The best area to stay in Matching is the village centre, particularly around Matching Green.
Matching Green is the heart of the village and offers a quintessential English countryside experience. It's a large, open village green, one of the largest in England, surrounded by historic cottages, a traditional pub, and the village church. The roads around the Green, such as The Street and Church Lane, are where you'll find the most characterful accommodation options. It's a very peaceful area, great for a relaxing stay.
Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find Matching Green ideal. You can enjoy strolls around the Green, visit the local pub for a drink and a meal, and appreciate the historic architecture. It's an excellent base for exploring the local footpaths and enjoying the quiet rural setting.
Families with older children who appreciate nature and history will also enjoy staying around Matching Green. The open space of the Green provides room for children to play, and the nearby footpaths offer opportunities for gentle walks.
When is the best time to go to Matching?
The best time to go to Matching is during the late spring and summer months, specifically from May to September, when the weather is generally warm and pleasant.
During these months, you'll find the countryside is at its most beautiful, with greenery in full bloom and longer daylight hours for exploring. This period is ideal for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, or visiting local gardens and estates. The village often hosts local events and fêtes during the summer, offering a true taste of English village life.
For those who prefer slightly cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, May and September are particularly appealing. The weather is still agreeable for sightseeing, and you can enjoy the attractions without the peak summer rush.
