Jersey is the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands. It is also the most popular with holidaymakers. This unique island offers a heady combination of rugged beaches, picturesque landscapes and welcoming towns. With all of this just a short flight from the United Kingdom and mainland Europe, it's not hard to understand the island's perennial draw. Among the island's best-known attractions is the magnificent Jersey Opera House, which is within easy reach of some of the island's finest hotels.
An Historic Venue
It was 1865 when a theatre was first built on the site of today's Jersey Opera House. Sadly, numerous fires destroyed the buildings that previously stood in La Vingtaine de la Ville, in St. Helier. The stunning property that stands today is a 1922 reconstruction of the remains of Adolphus Curry's 1900 design.
Internally, the Opera House is plush. The highlight is undoubtedly the opulent 10,200 piece chandelier. The beautiful Edwardian horseshoe shaped auditorium is a special place in which to enjoy your favourite classics.
A Dynamic Venue
There are several rooms within the Jersey Opera House, each of which hosts a variety of events, ranging from dance and music to opera and film. The main theatre seats up to 625 people, and can also be used for presentations and corporate events.
Elsewhere in the building, visitors will find a smaller studio seating 75, and a more intimate Berni Suite. There are also a handful of bars dotted around the complex, perfect for those interval refreshments.
