Pocket Guide: Skipton Gordale Scar Hotels

The north of England is know all over the world for its magnificent areas of natural beauty. Few areas are quite so famous, though, as North Yorkshire. The county isn't only the largest in the United Kingdom, it's also one of the most popular among holidaymakers. With close to half the land being occupied by National Parks, it's no wonder the crowds flock to this north-eastern county throughout the year. Gordale Scar is just one of the breath-taking spots in this special corner of the county. Located close to Malham, Gordale Scar is close to some of the finest hotels in North Yorkshire.

Spectacular Ravines and Wonderful Waterfalls

Gordale Scar is the name of a dramatic limestone ravine, located just outside Malham, in the famous Yorkshire Dales National Park. The spectacular cliffs are home to a pair of waterfalls, which are at their best in the days following heavy rainfall - not uncommon in these parts of England!

Created during the Ice Age, Gordale Scar's most impressive sight has to be the overhanging cliffs that measure some 100 metres in height. Wordsworth wrote about it, Turner painted it. This is without doubt one of the jewels in North Yorkshire's opulent crown.

Hotels in the Malham Area

Malham sits in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, making it a popular spot with holidaymakers. One of the upshots of this is that the area is home to many of the best guesthouses and hotels in North Yorkshire. From small and welcoming B&Bs to decadent spa retreats, this part of England has something to suit every taste.

Traditional inns are in abundance in this part of North Yorkshire. The Tennant Arms Hotel is a fine example of the kind of inviting atmosphere these inns provide to their guests. The comfortable guest rooms are tastefully furnished and the bar is a wonderful place to unwind after a long day's walking, with at least five cask ales always on tap.

Visitors to North Yorkshire who seek to indulge themselves during their holiday can pick from a number of upmarket spa hotels. The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa is an attractive four-star retreat packed with facilities. Guests can enjoy a spa, fitness suite and large garden.
