Beautiful room, very accommodating and tranquil experience. I stay again no hesitation, high standards for food only downfall may need a few more options for the choice cereals. In regards to cleanliness only one small problem need to be more attention to the dust. Dust on the radio clock, remote control for the television and both bedside tables. The staff are most welcoming especially the hostess, advising on where to go, ensuring we are having a great stay. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

Three night stay at the hotel for a birthday celebration. Hotel was pleasant and had lovely views from the front. We were in room 8 which was on second floor with a sea view. View was beautiful and awoke to an amazing sunrise over the sea on my birthday. Headroom was definitely limited to one side of the bed which they do mention. I am only small and found it a little difficult at times. Room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nice although I had to send my cooked breakfast back on second day as it was only luke warm and I didn't appreciate being asked if I wanted it warmed up or a new one!! Waiting staff in the morning were a little surly. Dinner in restaurant on second night was superb. Jo was very helpful with menu for my allergies and had the best fish we ate while away (better than the best fish restaurant in Torquay!) Overall a pleasant stay although if you want somewhere where you can walk to bars/places to eat then this doesn't fit the bill.

"Perfect hotel and hosts"
What a stunning hotel, everything about it is perfect. Jason & Neal made us feel so welcome with nothing being too much trouble, they should be very proud of what they have at Highcliffe. The rooms are beautiful and the location is breathtaking. The breakfast was a wonderful selection of local produce and was absolutely delicious. The only downside of our stay is that we didn’t stay long enough!!

"Outstanding hotel in a very convenient location"
We thoroughly recommend this hotel. We were able to check-in before the advertised time. The very friendly and courteous owner (Bradley) warmly greeted us and helped with our bags. Within minutes of showing us to our room, he had booked (at our request) tables at two local restaurants for our evenings out during our two-night stay - both restaurants were very nice and the food was delicious. The quality of this hotel is amazing; very tastefully decorated to an exceptionally high standard and specification. The facilities in the room are very good including a tablet, a blue tooth speaker and a quality TV with Netflix. The breakfast is lovely - a good range of cereals, fruit, etc, and the cooked breakfasts are very tasty using local produce. Our room faced the main road which I thought might be a problem at night or me with traffic passing by (as I'm a light sleeper) but Tavistock is a quiet town at night and the bed is so luxurious, I slept very soundly. There's nothing to fault with this hotel.

"Quiet Retreat"
Like any stately home, it's a beautiful building on some impressive grounds. Everything was available during our stay, it's a shame that there is no golf for novices. However archery, air rifle and clay shooting where enjoyed by my 11 year old. The instructors are excellent, well informed and professional. Indoor pool was good, it's a shame personal hygiene isn't high on some of the guests agendas. Food was good in both restaurants, if staying here for more than a few days it can get a bit samey. Bar is well stocked with whiskey, gin and vodka. Also a decent wine collection. If you have dogs, they'll love it here. I'd definitely come again if there was a special offer.

"Fantastic experience "
We stayed in the Barn Apartment set in the courtyard of the old dairy farm. A fully modern apartment refurbished with under floor heating, tv, wifi, hifi, luxurious bed. The staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was a feast of fresh organic produce. We only stayed one night - sadly because this place deserves time to relax and explore.

The hotel is easily accessible by road or on foot, the greeting and care we received were excellent and we were made to feel comfortable and welcome. We ate dinner in and the food was very good and great value.

"No Regrets!"
Sometimes the great reviews on Expedia and Trip Advisor can lead to disappointment due to high expectations, not so here! Almost beyond criticism but I do have one small issue, we stayed in the beautiful suite, room No. 6, which was lovely. I have to say that the mattress was not comfortable and let down an otherwise faultless experience.

Pocket Guide: Boutique Hotels in Devon

As Devon is a county so rich in beautiful landscapes and historic monuments, with a famously ragged coastline dotted with hidden coves and National Parks like Dartmoor and Exmoor, it's little wonder that so many visitors flock here. Whether you're based in an urban centre such as Plymouth or Torquay, or farther inland on the borders of Dartmoor, there are a number of boutique hotels in Devon that might suit you down to the ground.

Devon Boutique Hotels for Personalised Service

One of the great things about boutique hotels in Devon and elsewhere in the United Kingdom is that they usually limit their guestrooms to less than a hundred, and moreover they often include themes and original design elements to add a touch of individuality that guests appreciate. Such considerations are not employed by the bigger chain hotels because they have so many guests to process. Gourmet dining in boutique hotels in Devon is also high on the list of reasons why people are attracted to them, and their restaurants will often attract clientele from farther afield. Many are housed in old, historic buildings that have undergone extensive and sympathetic refurbishment, adding another layer of distinction.

Personalisation is what boutique hotels in Devon are all about. Whether you're in Dartmouth, Plymouth, Burgh Island or anywhere else in the county, if you're staying at a boutique hotel such as Bovey Castle in Newton Abbott or Orestone Manor in Torquay you'll be treated like the special guest you are. Designer toiletries and original artwork are common features, as are personalised CD collections in guestrooms and many other personal touches designed to make you feel like a VIP.

Value for Money at Devon Boutique Hotels

Surprisingly, boutique hotels in Devon can offer surprisingly good value for money if you compare them to the bigger chains. When you take all the extra facilities into account, from indoor pools and massage services to fitness centres and chauffeuring arrangements, you might decide to pay that bit extra and enjoy a more luxurious experience whilst you're here in Devon for business or pleasure. You know you deserve it, so book your Devon boutique hotel today for a guaranteed great break!
