Lancashire is one of the most beautiful and varied of all England's counties, with diverse scenery and some of the most historic towns in the region. It has seen everything from the Celts and Romans to the Wars of the Roses and the Industrial Revolution, and there's so much to see and do here for visitors of all ages. So why not start off on a lighter note and concentrate on entertainment and football to get your holiday off to a good start? Blackpool is one of the most entertaining towns in the UK, and concentrates a dizzying array of fun venues into its relatively small area. It has its own football club too, of course, with a devoted following and a home ground at Bloomfield Road. Come along to this impressive stadium from your Lancashire hotel or B&B and lap up the upbeat atmosphere.
Nicknamed the Seasiders or Tangerines because of their home kit of white and tangerine, Blackpool FC has had this ground as its home since 1899, although there have been a few improvements since then. In recent years, in fact, Bloomfield Road has been comprehensively redeveloped and now boasts some excellent, family-friendly facilities. Come along here from your Lancashire hotel base and admire the new North and West Stands, executive boxes and the state-of-the-art Sir Stanley Matthews Hospitality Suite in the North West corner. The North Stand, also called the Stan Mortensen Stand, is reserved for away fans, and although 1,000 tickets is the normal allocation it can in fact comfortably handle up to 1,500 supporters.
There's a great atmosphere on match days, so get along for one of these if you can from your Lancashire hotel and you'll be able to revel in the atmosphere. The spirit of a community resides in its football stadium, and at Bloomfield Road that spirit is irrepressible and buzzing. It's a friendly, family-orientated club that welcomes new supporters, as long as they're happy to wear a tangerine scarf! Check it out for yourself from your Lancashire hotel or B&B.
