Shibu Hotel
4.0 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (167)
"The staff was amazing. Very friendly and professional. I especially like the fact that they picked us up from our bus stop and took us to Snow monkey River. Thereafter, we called them, and they picked us up and took us to the hotel. The private onsen was amazing. I enjoyed it. The 13 course meal was exceptional and tasty This is a must place hotel to be at because they make the whole transition from the bus stop to their place very easy. There is a couple that runs the place and they are...

Aburaya Tosen
4.0 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (140)
"We went on a Japan trip for 2 weeks and this was our favorite ryokan, because they made us feel at home. It's in a little town surrounded by snowy mountains, near Shiga Kogen and Snow Monkey Park. The kaiseki was unbelievable, well worth the price. We don't want to ruin the surprises during dinner and the attention to detail throughout the experience. The staff were thoughtful, kind and thorough to us foreigners that don't know all of the customs of the area. The onsen was beautiful, well...

Yorozuya
2.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (26)
"Our stay started off well with a shuttle pick up from the station. The traditional look and style of the Yorozuya is beautiful. My husband and I booked the private spa for 2 hours our first night and it only cost $100 for us both to use. The private spa was absolutely amazing and even though it was modern compared to everything else, I loved that it was a private all inclusive experience that my husband and I could enjoy the baths and sauna together at our leisure. They provide drinks inside too...

Hotel Tsubakino
3.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (80)
"Enjoyed overall stay. The room is great. Hot springs are awesome. Vegan options for the food could be better. Make sure to check that kids are included when receiving confirmation. We didn’t and have to pay 1/4 more and it was already expensive. I checked the price online for four of us and it was exactly as we paid while booking but the confirmation letter didn’t include kids so we have to pay anyways. Otherwise happy with stay."

Villa Alpen
3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (30)
"Great fun hotel. The Captain who owns the place is an 80 year old Japanese Olympic ski racer and full of interesting stories and enthusiasm for skiing and the mountains. His son Ken is also a good and enthusiastic skier. Everyone speaks great english. Dinner was excellent and included the best fried chicken my 12 year old son has EVER had. Breakfast good too. There is a pleasant bar on site open until 10 pm. The hotel is genuine ski in ski out and about 15s ski to the lift. My kids borrowed...

Chalet Shiga
3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (17)
"We loved our stay at chalet Shiga. Skiing was fantastic. The people at the chalet treated us very well, lovely authentic japenese food and setting. The location is perfect, at the bottom of ichinose. We went at the start of spring season, which did mean some of the slopes were closed, and the buses were limited. Something to be aware of. But, there was still plenty of fluffy white stuff, lifts and slopes. We didn't need to go see the snow monkeys - they came to see us 😀"

Hotel Housei
3.0 star property
8.8 out of 10, Excellent, (126)
"Really enjoyed my 6-night stay here. It really is a traditional Japanese hotel and experience and loved the friendly and helpful staff, and the location is just a short 10 min scenic stroll across the river to the bus/train station. Didnt know what to expect but the Japanese style tatami rooms were cosy and comfy, and the outdoor onsen was just what was needed after a day on the ski slopes. The half-board option is a must if you love Japanese food and each night was like a little banquet with...

Yorozuya Annex Yurakuan
3.0 star property
7.8 out of 10, Good, (11)
"We stayed in this hotel while visiting Nagano prefecture in early December. The rooms are in a more traditional style with paper sliding doors, tatami mat floors and Yukata supplied for guests to wear during their stay. It has free parking which is valuable in a small town like this and having a car allows you to travel further out easier however decent train and bus services are also available I'm told. The receptionists were very helpful, offering us local advice, maps, and directions to the...
