"We had an enjoyable time. However, we felt it was not value for money. We paid for an upgrade for one of their premier rooms. We have not stayed there before so we do not know what the standard rooms are like. Ours was pretty standard on the second floor with no natural light as there was only a small window. It was too small for us and extremely hot with the temperatures outside with no air flowing through the room. As part of our stay we had booked a table at the brasserie given the reviews were good. The food was nothing special. They over-cooked my partner’s steak. For someone who does not eat meat, there wasn’t even a fish dish as they combined cod with chorizo. I ended up with no choice but have a vegetable risotto which was very poor - peas and asparagus. We spent over £400 for one night - less than 24 hours in the hotel as check-in is 11 and check-out 3. We would have expected a much higher quality of room and food for this amount of money. Unfortunately, the experience has put us off going again which is a shame as we live only 15 miles away and love the Essex Saltmarsh Coast. Back to Burnham-on-Crouch we will go. We thought we would give it a try but they failed to impress us. Sorry."

"The room was very clean and the bed had lovely sheets. The shower was very good. However the main problem was there was no place to have breakfast, I was informed of this on my way to the hotel! As we came by train we could not go and find a place for breakfast. Staff told us there was a cafe where we could eat 2 minutes up the road, it was not a cafe but a service station that sold hot pies. Some Travelodges do breakfast to go boxes which would have been acceptable. In the room there was only one towel, two teabags and 2 coffee sachets and 2 milks. This was not adequate. For some reason there were also only 2 plugs which made it difficult, kept having to unplug something to plug in something else. At 11pm there was a group of very noisy guests shouting and fighting in the corridor and this lasted until nearly 1 o'clock. No attempt by staff was made to break this up, I think the police should have been called. We were staying during the heatwave and so l asked for a fan and was given a very effective brand new one. Value for money - very reasonable but would have preferred to pay more and had a better experience."

"Being from the hospitality industry, I am not easily wowed but I have to say, the staff and service was wonderful, genuine and warm. Clean rooms, comfy beds, all expected amenities working and I enjoyed a delicious dinner in the restaurant. I stay here whenever I'm in the area as there's always a warm welcome."
