"The Lex: A nice, quiet, of the way boutique hotel."
The Lex hotel is a nice little boutique hotel on the East side of NYC away from the hustle and bustle of the Times Square area and yet just a $10 cab ride away. I found the hotel to be clean, well managed and the staff was very friendly and helpful. However nothing is perfect and the Lex wasn't either. The mattress on the bed was kind of hard and somewhat uncomfortable. Now, I realize this is ok with some people who prefer a stiffer mattress I, however do not so it was uncomfortable for me. The second, though I must admit, lessor complaint I had was with the shower. I went to turn it on but was unable to find the knob or lever to turn the shower on. I had to call the front desk and ask them how to do it. However the fellow was very helpful and told me there was a disc on the spigot where the water came out that turned the shower on. As I said a minor thing but if there had been written directions on the spigot itself I would not have had to ask. I got the feeling I was not the first person to encounter this problem. All in all though my stay at the Lex was a pleasant one as I found the room to be large and generally very comfortable (aside from the mattress). It even had a small veranda with a chaise lounge. I didn't use it but it was there. It also had a roomy closet with an iron and ironing board. I would stay at the Lex again and recommend it.
When I first went to my room I saw that it was not serviced, yet. I went back to the front desk and they took care of it. The rest of my stay was great. Great location, fun restaurant and excellent staff! The shower was fantastic evening, too!

I loved it!! The hotel is an old building, but I think it adds alot of character. It has been redone tastefully and the room we stayed was very elegant, nice king bed, good linen and bedding, loved the each detail. You have to let water run like good 10 minutes to get hot water for the shower, and I felt bad waisting so much water especially since we are from drought California. The room didn't have a view, but we just came back to sleep, so it was okay. The location was excellent. It's centrally located and convenient to go anywhere.
Fantastic boutique hotel in Manhattan, the staff were absolutely superb. Nothing was too much trouble as they happily assisted any request. Little things like remembering what you drink at breakfast etc made this feel a lot more personal and friendly.
Location is excellent, ideally positioned in a great part of town.

I arrived not knowing what to expect. Immediate and courteous greeting. They upgraded me to a penthouse suite which was over the top. Since my wait would be 10 minutes they suggested we get a drink at the bar and walked us over to get a server. After checking in I went to the fitness room, a little warm but very well laid out and perfect for my needs almost empty as well. Great location and the staff was professional and responsive without having an air about them. Great visit.
Every member of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly with directions and anticipated our needs continuously. The hotel is very well decorated and our room had the largest bathroom we have experienced in a standard room in Manhattan. Nice selection of fruits, cereals and baked goods for breakfast in a lovely, relaxing atmosphere.
Great hotel at a very reasonable price(thanks Expedia).
Knowledgeable staff (Arvin you rock) about the closest stores (liquor and grocery just around the corner) to pick up goodies for a late afternoon snack, for a quick get together with friends on the Hotel's roof -10 stories up - inside and outside seating - unobstructed views-ice and glasses provided.
Most important clean room and very comfortable bed.
Black out curtain great for keeping the morning sun out however a privacy curtain would have been nice as lighting in the room was marginal.
George Washington marks the midpoint of Union Square, a well-groomed park that offers respite from Manhattan's masses. Known for its weekly Greenmarket, which unites foodies with farmers, the park is surrounded by a vibrant neighborhood of shops and restaurants and is convenient to Greenwich Village and downtown to the south. Just north stands one of New York City's iconic buildings, the Flatiron.
