Pocket Guide: Manchester Trafford Hotels

Manchester, with its long and proud history of textile manufacturing attracts visitors throughout the year. They not only enjoy seeing the industrial heritage of the region such as the Manchester Ship Canal, but revel in a modern city full of brilliant attractions. From museums and art galleries to sports venues, some of the best shopping opportunities in the United Kingdom and a vibrant music and club scene, Manchester has it all.

Hotels in Manchester for Trafford Attractions

The city is so enormous that it is divided up into several distinct districts such as Salford and Bolton, or rather these formerly separate townships have merged into Greater Manchester. Each retains its own character and has its own unique attractions, and when you visit an area like Trafford from your Manchester hotel you'll be pleasantly surprised at what's on offer there.

The Trafford area of Manchester is actually composed of the smaller towns of Sale, Partington, Urmston, Altrincham and Stretford. It's an example of how hamlets, villages and towns organically merge into larger conurbations over the centuries, a trend driven in this case by Manchester's role as an industrial powerhouse, especially in the late 18th century. Trafford today is has a lively arts and cultural scene, with excellent galleries and museums, and is also close to the open countryside.

Discover Historic Trafford from Manchester Hotels

The area was only established in 1974, so it's fairly recent, but has made up for lost time in its sheer energy, enthusiasm and creativity. The borough is anchored at either end by great family estates, deriving its name from one of them, the de Trafford's estate. This is where most of the entertainment venues and cultural attractions can be found. The Dunham Massey Estate at the other end of the borough, is famous for its Hall and gardens, preserved and maintained by the National Trust.

When you visit Trafford from your Manchester hotel or guesthouse base you'll have plenty to see and do. From potting and painting classes at Dunham Massey to jazz at the Waterside Arts Centre, there's always plenty going on here and you'll have a brilliant time.
