If you’re heading to the Canadian Rockies to ski, Sunshine Village should be high up on your shortlist. It’s one of the main ski resorts in Banff National Park, situated just over nine miles from the hotels, lodges and hostels of Banff town centre.
If you’re looking for Sunshine Village accommodation, your best bet is the nearby town of Banff, which has a variety of options, from one-star budget properties to four-star hotels. The picturesque mountain town has a great selection of bars, restaurants, shops and amenities. A regular shuttle bus service travels from Banff to Sunshine Village, stopping at many of the inns, lodges and hotels in town. Check the schedule to find the best pick up point for you.
The Sunshine Village ski area sits in a valley between the peaks of Mount Standish, Lookout Mountain and Goat’s Eye Mountain. Every year around half a million people visit Sunshine Village during its November-to-May ski season, and no wonder – there’s a yearly snowfall of around 30ft, and over 3,300 acres of land to explore. A choice of lifts and a high speed gondola will take you to the resort’s top ski stations, from which you can explore no fewer than 120 trails.
Intermediate skiers and boarders can enjoy at least half of the trails at Sunshine Village, while beginners can find their feet on nine gentle pistes. And for the most experienced, there are double black runs and gladed areas to explore. There’s also a great range of shops, cafes and restaurants, so whether you want to grab a quick coffee and snack, indulge in a luxury dining experience or upgrade your ski gear, you’ll be well catered for at Sunshine Village.
Not a skier? No problem. Gondola-only passes are available for those who want to simply enjoy the breathtaking mountain views. The gondolas are also popular during the summer months, when you can follow stunning walking trails through alpine meadows. Whether you’re a winter skiing visitor or a summer hiker, a hotel near Sunshine Village makes a great base in Banff National Park.
