This was a classy hotel I would totally recommend it to anyone I know. The room was big as was the bathroom and the closet. The only negative thing I could say about the hotel was the service was slow. But that is ok when everything else was great. Friendly staff!
We were very impressed by the hotel itself, the staff's friendliness and helpfulness and the comfort of the room...the bedding is to die for. It's central to everything in the city too: the infamous mall is right next door, Market street is a block away and the we boarded the cable car right across the street to ride to the wharf. Would recommend the Pickwick to anyone!!
The staff at the hotel is excellent and accommodating. The hotel is dated, but reasonably priced. It is within walking distance of downtown San Francisco. The only drawback is the neighborhood -- very close to many shelters and services for the homeless population, so you will see many homeless in the neighborhood. We had no problem with the area and felt safe and secure at the hotel. They also have parking for an additional fee which was very reasonable for the downtown area.
I chose this hotel because it was under the allowed amount by my company for a work-related trip. I loved the funky location and enjoyed walking around looking at the industrial buildings that have been made into condos and homes. The hotel itself reminded me of B & B's I have stayed at in London with squeaky, carpeted hallways and tine bathrooms. However the bathroom had been renovated and was clean. This was the best option I had for my limited budget but was south of Market and my work was north so it was a 25-min cab ride from work to the hotel and the same the next morning. Continental breakfast consisted of good coffee but no cream-only coffeemate and muffins.
The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly. The rooms are well-off, but the bed is too hard, did not sleep well these nights.
The food is interesting, as have many Chinese guests, the buffet contains enough Chinese cuisine, just as the traditional American breakfast.
Must solve a problem with the current in the rooms: The air in the corridor (cold) slides under the front door, this becomes a problem at night. I used towels to close the air gap.
Getting to Market Street is simple, you only walk half a block. Perfect for street tourism makes, everything is within walking distance: The famous Startups, theater, museums, also stops for the metro and tram stops.
Quick check in by helpful clerk. This is a motel and while the parking area is open to the public access to the rooms area requires a key, this provided me with a greater sense of security.
The room was clean and the decor was attractive and fresh. There was a TV, refrigerator & blow dryer. I don't recall an alarm/clock, but I used my phone for that anyway.
No closet but there is a hanging rack with hangars. The sink area was clean and fairly modern. The toilet / shower room was clean as well and even has a window up in the ceiling to let light in.
The motel is old, I believe 3 stories high (The lower story being parking) and is well maintained. The neighborhood was what could be expected for downtown San Francisco. A decent continental breakfast was served (and much appreciated!) That included packaged pastries, fresh fruit, small yogurt cups and refrigerated fruit juice.
Although I was not cold, my only complaint is that there is no bed spread, just sheets and blanket. Also the weather stripping could use some refreshing. I was there for 1 night on business, slept well, ate nearby and was just a mile or so from Moscone Center so the cab ride was quick or I could have walked of I wanted.
