Best Western Pontypool Metro Hotel

8/10 Good

"Nice and quiet hotel close to town. Good parking space and electric car charging points ( we did not use them, but in case you need it, there are 2 if I remember correctly ). Really lovely lady at reception. Staff very helpful. Rooms are decent size. Quiet. Bed very comfortable. Carpets need hoovering, but other than that the room was nice. Breakfast area was comfortable and clean and there was choice between hot and cold options. I have struggled a bit with the breakfast, as I am not a fan of processed food, however my partner enjoyed it. I guess it's a matter of preference and I am fussy lol, so do not let this put you off. You will not be hungry :-) We will be coming back to stay here."

"We had room 24. Could watch the house martins nesting while lying in bed. Amazing history. Needs some refurbishment but not surprising in an older property and everything worked. Enjoyed spa facilities. Staff were really helpful although not always accessible when needed. Excellent restaurant in Usk (Wallace steakhouse although not cheap) Seemed to be limited to one key per room. Overall we spent a couple of really nice nights (B&B) there."

"Absolutely wonderful staff and the room was amazing!! The only issue (not their fault) they put me on the top floor and I struggle with stairs a lot as I’m disabled.. so, I booked a small single room but they have a huge room with a double and two singles great bathroom windows that open for air and the bed was great and the hot chocolate n biscuits. But I almost fell asleep my legs died underneath me and I was too shaky for what looked and slightly tasted like a fab breakfast. I was just too shaky from the stairs and felt bit sick but I tasted it. On a normal day I’d have had the lot. A great hotel in a fab location. I’ll definitely stay again. Thanks to Mike the manager .. just wish you had an elevator! Thanks again for a fab room."

"Got a really good price on a room with a gym on site. There was decent parking available and I got parked up near the entrance. I had a room on the ground floor which was close to the gym as well as the entrance. The room was pretty standard but what was required for me. I got shown to the gym which had new equipment and had plenty to choose from. I was then told it was an extra £5 to use it which would have been nice to know as part of booking the stay. I had a great workout at the gym then went out for an evening meal. A good night's sleep was followed by a breakfast buffet at the clubhouse which was decent. It may have not been the greatest accommodation experience but it did represent tremendous value for money and I would look to stay here again based on that."

"Strikingly looking hotel. Unfortunately on entering reception, we were greeted with a dirty carpet, which carries on into the bar area with lots of stains. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs, which I wasn't aware of when I booked. Therefore, in this heatwave, the room was an oven. There was a desk fan - 'thank goodness'. Pleased with the room, the layout and amenities. Curtains need seeing to, useless and need blackouts! All the staff were pleasant and hard working. Did not expect a buffet breakfast, felt like a Travel Lodge!! We only had breakfast which was okay and ordered sandwiches late one night, which were very nice. Overall, a pleasant stay, the heat didn't help. We thought it was overpriced for what it was."
