The Lady Hamilton B&B

The Lady Hamilton B&B

10/10 Excellent
"While born and bred in Pompey for 19 years, I returned to my hometown as a tourist to show a friend around. Therefore, I knew of the Lady Hamilton's excellent location and I was pleasantly surprised that the "partial sea view" from the window was an excellent full view of HMS Warrior-stunning at sunrise. No noise disturbance from the pub or street and stairway means not having to go through pub; didn't drink in pub, as they had run out of London Pride real ale, but a proper local pub if you want the authentic Portsea. The Lady Hamilton is a stones throw from the dockyard (maritime museum) and the range of restuarants at Gunwharf; recommend Giggly Squid and Tap and Tandoori - has lovely vegan options .Also, a delighful 15 minute walk to Old Portsmouth-Spinaker cafe good place for breakfast and opens early. I would definitely stay here again and recommend; very comfortable bed, clean, great shower, location and view! Only thing that would have been a good thing to have in the room is a peg in bathroom for towels, though did have radiator to hang on. Although HMS Victory covered over for renovation, still a fascinating visit and The Mary Rose musuem is out of this world and a must see."

The Queens Hotel

The Queens Hotel

8/10 Good
"Whilst we had a lovely stay and the staff were very helpful an attentive, one niggle was the bar meal/restaurant policy, we were travelling with my elderly dad and his wife. On the first night, we ate in the restaurant which was all very nice, however on the second night, my father's wife wanted a bar meal but to be seated in the restaurant which was next door. The reason being, the restaurant was quieter but more importantly, the bar seats were too low whereas the restaurant has proper dining chairs, she struggles to walk/sit etc and my fathers hip is very painful. When we asked if they could have a bar meal in the restaurant we were met with 'no' sorry !! When we explained the reasons why, the waitress (who was trying to be helpful) said she would ask in the kitchen (presumably the kitchen that makes the food for both bar and restaurant) but came back and said no. We had to virtually beg for the rules to be laxed. We spend around £220 that first night, whilst my dad and his wife did eat in the restaurant on the second night, we didn't eat in the hotel again. When the hospitality industry is crying out for help because of high business costs etc, turning good business away seems backwards to me. Also, when we booked a superior/deluxe sea view room, we were unaware that the bathroom had two steps into it, we wouldn't have booked if we had known, my dad had to change rooms because of access. Other than these two small issues, it was all good and the staff were helpful"

"A very well kept hotel with lovely rooms and good breakfast. All the facilities you need for your stay is available. Remember this hotel is situated perfectly for the Royal Naval Docks and the shopping and restraunts that are there. But it also comes with the railway station and bus station so don't expect a peaceful weekend. Last bus and train seems to be 1a.m. Others wise perfect for a great weekend for shopping, eating and seeing the Mary Rose. Well worth the price."
