"The Guesthouse You've Looked for all your Life!l"
Chartfield is beautiful. Usually I imagine how I could have decorated so much better -- not at Chartfield. The fishing village of Kalk Bay is like a dream. Great restaurants, gorgeous views. The staff is marvelous -- try to meet each individual's needs. While we were there they had an open house for the neighbours. We had the delight of meeting local people and hearing about local activism during the pre-Mandela days in South Africa and now.
My husband and I spent nine days in beautiful St. James Manor. We booked through Expedia and expected a small room, but I think we were upgraded as our room (Boyes) was large and beautifully appointed, with a view of the sea. This guest house is absolutely gorgeous. The furnishings are tasteful and reflect the historical nature of this beautiful house, which belongs to Rovos Rail. Our beds were large and very comfortable. The bathroom was huge and spotlessly clean, with a large walk-in shower and a large bath. Even the products were of excellent quality!
The staff are very good and the service is amazing. Breakfast was excellent and drinks are all included. The house is quiet and peaceful and there were always snacks available. We enjoyed staying so close to the path along the sea. We walked to Muizenburg along this. Vibrant Kalk Bay is a five minute walk as well, with many restaurants and interesting shops. We loved our stay!
We had a wonderful stay at Sonnekus. The owners cannot be nicer, thank you for changing the flat tire on our rental car. We had a superb dinner in the next town and left SA the next day. Sonnekus made it hard to say goodbye. Great location, beautiful room with a view, tasty breakfast and fantastic hosts.

We stayed at Rodwell House for 2 nights in February. The setting is beautiful, especially the suites overlooking the pool and ocean. Breakfasts are excellent, and you can eat dinner at the restaurant if arranged by 11a.m. The inn is an old mansion and the rooms have been updated. Our only complaint was a bad odor emanating from the shower drain that permeated the room. Other than that, it was a nice stay.
