The Cape Grace should be called the Cape Gracious. Well located, clean, well designed and furnished. Wonderful antiques all over. Good restaurant and bar. The bar, presided over by the irrepressible Happy should be called "The Happy Zone." The most engaging, most competent, friendliest staff imaginable. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home.
Great location. Near to everything on the waterfront. Rooms are a good size, modern bathroom fittings and tastefully furnished.
Tip: get a room higher up than the 1st floor rooms as these are a little noisy from the bar area below, and smells from the kitchen and restaurant also waft up.
"Great base for exploring Cape Town and Peninsula"
V&A Waterfront is a great place to base yourself when spending a few days in Cape Town. Portswood makes that very easy. If you have not pre-planned visit to various attractions before you arrive, the lobby has a dedicated tours desk who are happy to book trips as well as provide free guidance. We found the rooms, service and cleanliness above our expectations. We had seen some reviews before our trip that seemed to suggest that outdoor noise could be heard inside the rooms. We did not find that to be true at all, at least not for the two rooms we stayed in.
"Excellent self-catering option in V&A Waterfront"
Lawhill is an outstanding choice for self-catered stays in the V&A waterfront area of Capetown. There are lots of shops, restaurants and other interesting places within easy walking distance of the hotel. There is a grocery in the bottom floor of the large mall which makes grocery fetching convenient (although it is a bit of a walk, if you plan to buy a large amount of groceries bring something to carry them in). Quiet suites create a nice respite from the city life. There is free easy parking at the unit if you've rented a car.
Hotel is in a great location for the V&A Waterfront, clean and well run but rooms were very small with no room to put your suitcase, also do not expect any help getting your luggage to and from the taxi. Excellent buffet breakfast but expense, walk down to the Aquarium cafe for a third of the price with great views across the harbour.
