"Stop over to break up a long journey."
Although we only booked the hotel at short notice to break up a long journey we were delighted with the hotel and its facilities. There was a large wedding party when we arrived but the staff were still able to accommodate and look after us even though they were busy with this major event. The room was comfortable and clean. We were well placed to walk into the town and because the hotel was so busy decided to eat away from the hotel on the evening of our arrival. Breakfast was included, buffet style, and was tasty and plentiful. Again the restaurant was busy because of the large wedding party but the staff were efficient and helpful ensuring that service was smooth and not slow. It was a shame we only had one night but our plans were fairly tight. I would definitely recommend the property and if I was in the area again would consider staying again.

"Nice hotel - close to Durham City."
Good location- lots of amenities nearby.Nice part of Durham. Good base for seeing surrounding countryside. Newcastle, Sunderland, the North East Coastline, Whitby, Northumberland - only a drive away. It was a good place to stay to visit family members and have a catch up over Easter. Lovely walks by the River Wear. Good food in the Market Place - lovely cakes, fish and chips, pasties, pease pudding. Interesting Churches to visit and Services to attend at the Cathedral. Great shops in Newcastle - could visit the Newcastle Football Club. Ushaw College just outside of Durham open for tours and afternoon tea. Durham is a city very like Winchester and is a University town. There is always the option of taking in a movie if the weather isn't good. The people are extremely friendly and go out of their way to be of help. You won't be disappointed with a visit to such an historical town which has much to offer to the discerning tourist.

The pub was well appointed and attractive. We had booked evening for two night, but, service was so bad on first night we cancelled second night. We waited 1 hour 20 minutes for food, Linguine with prawns and clams. It was lukewarm and very small. We were given a free drink and complimentary desert in compensation. The bathroom tended to flood, loo seat kept slipping, and there was only a tiny glass shelf, needs another shelf to put sponge bags etc down. Very noisy downstairs in annexe from the stairs, needs some kind of soundproofing.

"Overnight stay for my husbands birthday "
The drive up to and overall appearance of the the hotel on arrival is stunning, fantastic service at reception and concierge service. Our room 309, although a family room and we were only a couple was excellent, comfortable, spacious and everything we needed and the bathroom was luxurious with espa toiletries. Robes and slippers were provided in the room for spa use too. We ate from the carvery on the evening and the food was very nice and reasonably priced. We paid extra to enter the spa although the pool and sauna are included in the tariff. Unfortunately the spa area was very overcrowded but we managed to enjoy what was there. All the staff we encountered were helpful and polite and we will definitely return.

"One night stay at Blackwell Grange"
I booked at this hotel as I have been staying here occasionally for many years & it is close to my relative whom I was visiting. My main point of criticism was that there was no heating in the room as the radiator valve did not work. The fact that it was so loose & wobbly indicated to me that others had tried to tamper with it but without success. Had I been staying with my wife (she wasn't with me on this occasion), she would have had me reporting this to reception straight away or changing the room, as it was a cold night. In the event, I reported it at checkout the following morning. Otherwise the stay at the hotel was OK as the food is good, service is OK & the staff are fine.

"Good hotel, good location"
Twelve hour delay, thanks to aircraft problems, did not phase staff. They seemed used to such problems. The hotel is OK for its price-range.
