"Turned out OK in the end...."
Unfortunately our room was very cold on arrival & it transpired the heating did not work in our room. No other rooms were available so mobile heaters were made available. Not quite the romantic start we had planned but the staff supplied a bottle of champagne and a complimentary breakfast so all good in the end.

"Great location on the quayside."
We received a really nice welcome. We arrived too early for check-in and the receptionist took our bags. When we did check-in, our bags had already been placed in our rooms. All the hotel staff were exceptional. We did book a room on the waterfront and the views over the river were spectacular. However, there was some noise from the bar opposite the hotel but not enough to spoil our stay. The hotel has a great location right next to The Millenium Bridge, The Baltic Art Gallery and close to The Sage Theatre. The city centre is within easy walking distance along the waterfront. We had great dinners in Sabatinis (Italian) and The Big Mussel (seafood). The Biscuit Factory is a wonderful commercial Art Gallery well worth a visit.

"Lovely modern hotel."
Hotel was lovely, modern and clean, was a bit disappointed had to book two double rooms as they didn't have single rooms or single rooms were as expensive as a double. Made it an expensive night for a brother/sister travelling together for 1 night, breakfast wasn't the best, little choice, minimal fresh fruit and only a small amount of cooked items available, mushrooms were dry and had to wait for food to be replenished as there was minimal amounts on the counter. There was no one to check us in so we carried on and helped ourselves but had to wait a good while before we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee. Gym area was adequate, pool was cold so didn't enter but did use the jacuzzi & steam room.

Does what it says on the tin. Great staff, expensive bar, reasonable buffet breakfast, not to inspired with the cooked one. Dirty towel was picked up off the floor to be reused - it was filthy I'd been on site all day -Really NOT impressed!

Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf and Spa

"Not far off motorway"
We stayed in a family room which was huge, plenty big enough for the three of us. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The self service buffet breakfast was tasty with a good choice to suit everyone. Free use of the pool, sauna and steam room was a bonus. The only downside we found was the spa. We booked this hotel mainly because it had a spa and we wanted to book several treatments. We tried calling several times during the week before our stay and were promised call backs within 10 mins which we never got until a day later and even then they couldn't give us an answer or let us book anything and yet again promised to call back but never did. For a hotel that advertises itself as a spa we felt very let down by this but to be fair the hotel accommodation itself could not faulted.

Pocket Guide: Wedding Hotels in Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Whether you've been engaged for a while or you've just said yes, if you're planning your big day, there is a great choice of wedding hotels in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Whether you imagine your wedding day to be a grand event with hundreds of guests or a small, intimate affair with immediate family and close friends, there's a hotel to suit your perfect special day.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Wedding Hotel in Newcastle

The first thing to consider - although it may seem obvious - is where you want to get married and in what kind of style. Do you prefer city weddings in chic surroundings, countryside weddings in grand houses, or seaside weddings on the rugged coast? Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the surrounding area can cater for all of these wedding styles, giving you a lot to choose from.

Another consideration is your guests and where they will stay - at least any who don't live locally. It's most likely that many will be travelling from other parts of the country and so may need a room for the night of the wedding and maybe the night before. You will either need to get married in a hotel with enough rooms for all guests or you would need to advise those invited of other hotels close by.

What You Can Expect from a Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Wedding Hotel

A lot of wedding hotels are licensed so that your wedding ceremony can be held there, so you can consider having your entire day in one place, which may make things very convenient for you and your guests. Alternatively, you can just have your reception in the hotel.

Many of the wedding hotels in Newcastle-upon-Tyne employ experienced wedding planners to assist you with organising the big day - everything from reception drinks to entertainment.

Planning your dream wedding can seem daunting, but finding the perfect wedding hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne certainly isn't! From here, you'll have everything you need to make it the most special day of your lives together.
