I stayed in the henhouse. This was a very large dwelling place with a full kitchen in living room and a very large bedroom. It’s perfect for a family or a solo person just needing a couple of days where they can cook along their travels. It’s located in a beautiful area, the owners have sheep and a farm but it’s still very quiet. You can park right outside of the front door. ##### Faith Stayed 3 nights in May 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### Sean 25 May 2025 Liked: Staff & service Disliked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities #### Spider nest Wonderful place and concur with all the reviews except; the cleanliness of our room, the hen house. Webs and cobwebs all over the place, many occupied. I had to get the hoover in the bathroom to get rid of 5 big spiders, and their webs. The cobwebs all over the place have been there a long time. This wonderful place is seriously let down by unacceptably poor housekeeping. The windows, sills etc have accumulated so much filth; this is neglect. If you are afraid of spiders then don't come here as this will be your worst horror movie. ##### Sean Stayed 2 nights in May 2025 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Robert 11 Aug 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Great stay Have been here several times over the years cant fault the property ##### Robert Stayed 5 nights in Jun 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### TIMOTHY 28 Sept 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities Lovely accommodation in a beautiful place with a warm welcome. ##### TIMOTHY Stayed 2 nights in Sep 2023 ### 6/10 Okay #### William 24 Sept 2024 Disliked: Staff & service, property conditions & facilities Property could have been great but sadly was a little tired and uncared for. ##### William Stayed 2 nights in Sep 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### David 10 Aug 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service #### Adrquate Nice first impressions, but cooker not great, basic equipment. Well recommended. ##### Richard Stayed 3 nights in Mar 2020 ### 8/10 Good #### Denise 19 Nov 2019 Liked: Staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Recommended Really good facilities for the price. Plenty of space and very comfortable. One of the radiators didn't work and the bathroom shower area could have been more thoroughly cleaned. The surroundings were very scenic, it was lovely and quiet with only a five minute drive to the nearest town (Langley Park). We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to others. ![View from lounge window](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/844D229323DEF9328D53FBADC29B25634CB092FC1574154079368.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/7C7C5FA9B4A083D52C1EFFAAFCDE2748DAE884351574154116773.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ##### Denise Stayed 2 nights in Nov 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Joyce 28 Jul 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### A great location for trips out Wonderful quiet location near to Beamish and good access to the M1 motorway. There is a kettle, toaster, microwave, cooker and fridge/freezer in the kitchen area which is adequately stocked with crockery and cutlery. The lounge furniture is extremely comfortable and there is a small dining table. The bed is comfortable and warm and there is plenty of storage in the bedroom. ##### Sue Stayed 5 nights in Sep 2018 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Mike, Hampshire 6 Sept 2018 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Cosy farm cottage in beautiful countryside Hamsteels Hall is a collection of farm cottages, modern barn conversions, set in the rolling countryside of County Durham. It is 5 minutes by car from Lanchester with good pubs, restaurants and shops, and only 15 minutes drive to Durham or the Beamish Museum, or 30 minutes to Newcastle. It is in excellent walking country, an ideal base for a week or more. The rooms are cosy but not too small, well-equipped and clean. The hostess could not have been more helpful, fixing a couple of minor gripes or omissions. Rates are reasonable. We will return! ##### Mike Stayed 2 nights in Aug 2018 ### 8/10 Good #### Timothy 29 Jul 2018 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service #### Hen House the owner was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was a little dated and cold have done with a few more crockery items. The shower was a bit dangerous if you had children as it could get very hot.Overall it was acceptable for the price we paid. Wifi was ok but could only get a good reception in the bedroom. ##### Timothy Stayed 7 nights in Jun 2018 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jade, Slough 29 May 2018 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort Lovely cottages beautiful scenery. Our accommodation was very spacious, designed for up to 9 people sharing although there were only 3 of us. Comfy living room with a dining area and open kitchen; disabled friendly. In the living room there was a nice looking fireplace, no real fire though. The television was a bit small for the size of the room and the free view was not working very well; only a few channels were accessible, the others were crashing constantly. The kitchen was well equipped in everything you might need in a self-catering place. The beds were comfy but a bit too soft for me. The whole place had an excellent heating so despite all cold weather we were cosy and warm inside. The only issue with the boiler was hot water in showers. Especially in the evening it was almost impossible to get hot shower, although all taps were fine for this. No idea what the problem was. Another little thing was the cleanliness... I have no idea how that place managed to keep 4 stars. Dust was everywhere, the top of the fridge, inside of the fridge-freezer, room corners, showers and the bath and even the interior doors were just dirty and looked like nobody gave them a proper clean for a long time. If I had something like that in a 4 star hotel, I would complain to the manager. But at the Hamsteels Hall there was actually nobody to talk to most of the time. It is a working farm and the owners are just busy with other things. Staying at the farm had its ##### E Stayed 5 nights in Mar 2018 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Mary, Milton Keynes 30 Aug 2017 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Highly Recommended We stayed in the Hen House, which is a lovely, one bedroom cottage across the yard from the main building. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and well furnished with plenty of room for sitting down to chat or watch TV in the evening and a separate dining area with table and chairs for four people. The kitchen is small but perfectly good for cooking a simple evening meal. The bedroom is also nicely furnished and decorated and the beds (one double and one single) are very comfortable. The area, very rural, is quite beautiful and there are villages a few miles in either direction for shops/restaurants. The owners are friendly and helpful. I'm so glad we found it. ##### Mary Stayed 3 nights in Aug 2017 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Verified traveller 13 Aug 2017 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Great base for exploring Durham and its surrounds Easy to get to beautiful quite location ##### Verified traveller Stayed 5 nights in Aug 2017 ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [Crafted at Powdermills](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Battle-Hotels-Powdermills-Country-House-Hotel.h195688.Hotel-Information) > > [Pinewood Camping Pods - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Pinewood-Apinall-Foundation.h40101599.Hotel-Information) > > [Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sheffield-Hotels-The-Quays-Hotel-Sheffield.h46197620.Hotel-Information) > > [White Hart, Exeter by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-White-Hart.h11899395.Hotel-Information) > > [The Stables Whitby](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-The-Stables-Whitby.h23322490.Hotel-Information) > > [Samsara Retreat and Yoga - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Maidstone-Hotels-Samsara-Retreat-And-Yoga.h41349775.Hotel-Information) > > [Cromer Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cromer-Hotels-Cromer-Country-Club.h1927781.Hotel-Information) > > [The Skipton Hotel - Formerly Hotel Rendezvous](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skipton-Hotels-Hotel-Rendezvous.h41466.Hotel-Information) > > [Bear Lodge - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Bear-Lodge-Aspinall-Foundation.h40101484.Hotel-Information) > > [Exeter Rougemont hotel by Sunday](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-Exeter-Rougemont-Hotel-By-Sunday.h7784.Hotel-Information) > > [Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burnley-Hotels-Crowwood-Hotel-Spa-Resort.h38222710.Hotel-Information) > > [Skegness The Royal Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skegness-Hotels-The-Royal-Hotel-Skegness.h23931999.Hotel-Information) > > [Soar Mill Cove Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Salcombe-Hotels-Soar-Mill-Cove-Hotel.h2042032.Hotel-Information) > > [Seven Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Southend-On-Sea-Hotels-Seven-Hotel.h19282555.Hotel-Information) > > [Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa - an Iconic Luxury Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/New-Milton-Hotels-Chewton-Glen-Hotel-Spa.h528432.Hotel-Information) > > [OYO Shanklin Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Shanklin-Hotels-OYO-Shanklin-Beach-Hotel.h7539838.Hotel-Information) > > [DoubleTree by Hilton London Elstree](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Borehamwood-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-London-Elstree.h18549.Hotel-Information) > > [Mermaid, Ipswich by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ipswich-Hotels-Mermaid.h31883430.Hotel-Information) > > [Donnington Manor Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sevenoaks-Hotels-Donnington-Manor-Hotel.h865829.Hotel-Information) > > [The Swan Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Wells-Hotels-The-Swan-Hotel.h26791.Hotel-Information) > > [The Aviator, formerly Smugglers Cove, Clacton On Sea by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Clacton-On-Sea-Hotels-Smugglers-Cove-By-Marstons-Inns.h35853904.Hotel-Information) > > [Yeoldon House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bideford-Hotels-Yeoldon-House.h2764122.Hotel-Information) > > [Brock Cottage private Hot Tub DOG/Cat FRIENDLY\* with on site fishing](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Pickering-Hotels-Spacious-Stone-Cottage-DOG-FRIENDLY.h36805890.Hotel-Information) > > [Hampton by Hilton Canterbury](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Canterbury-Hotels-Hampton-Inn-Canterbury.h66541221.Hotel-Information) > > [Wild Rose Caravan Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Appleby-In-Westmorland-Hotels-Wild-Rose-Caravan-Park.h24459296.Hotel-Information) > > [Lock Keeper, Worksop by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Worksop-Hotels-Lock-Keeper.h27479298.Hotel-Information) > > [voco Leicester by IHG](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Leicester-Hotels-Voco-Leicester.h76596043.Hotel-Information) > > [Canterbury Bell, Margate by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Broadstairs-Hotels-Canterbury-Bell.h33103125.Hotel-Information) > > [Wild Thyme & Honey](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cirencester-Hotels-Wild-Thyme-Honey.h9241983.Hotel-Information) ---
