"Absolutely stunning place, that actually used to be owned by my family member, of whom I'm the last surviving one here, and I had no idea! I knew he was a well off local businessman, who I met lots as a little one in but I lost both of my parents so didn't get to know this, plus a previous generation fallout meant Set in such a beautiful setting, and really quiet. We were here over the hot bank holiday and it was very busy, but still really quiet which we were shocked about. Room was clean and bathroom was nice, only issue is our 'double' bed was actually two twins pushed together, of different heights, so my partner and I were rather uncomfortable,"

"The hotel and facilities are absolutely beautiful. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms modern. However, we experienced multiple issues with the disorganisation of the hotel and staff. When booking the spa the online booking system didn’t work, I tried to book over the phone and was passed from staff member to staff member and put on hold multiple times. When I finally managed to book, the confirmation email I received revealed the treatments were booked wrong. And it took another load of back and forth to correct. We had ordered two vegan meals for lunch, one was incorrect and we waited 40 minutes for a replacement. The staff had run out of a few of the cocktails on the already limited menu and once we finally managed to order something they did have, the service was very slow. When checking into our room, the staff at reception sent us in the wrong direction, so we ended up walking up and down the stairs and across the hotel with very heavy bags. The room was lovely and spacious, but we booked it for 4 people and the sink was blocked, meaning it took a while to drain which was not ideal for so many people using it. The spa treatments were lovely, the staff were very talented and products used felt of good quality. The facilities were nice and clean. Overall I would book again, as it is a beautiful hotel, but lacking organisation."

"Complained about the mattress/bed which was terrible to the reception at the check out. Extractor fan in the toilet was not working. Outdated room and wouldn’t stay next time especially money which was paid for the night"

"The location is very central. Few minutes walk to the transport museum, cathedral and shops. About 15 minute walk from the station. The hotel lobby, reception, lifts, corridors etc were all clean. The room was very clean and spacious. Only dirty thing was the outside of the windows which were filthy. I didn’t use the bar or eat in the restaurant. There’s plenty of places to eat out or get a takeaway on the doorstep and a big Sainsbury’s on the corner. I was out all day so I ate wherever I was and just bought a meal deal from the supermarket for the evening. I arrived early and was able to drop my case off which was tagged and locked in a room. So I was able to go and explore without dragging it around which was good. Staff were fine, not overly jolly like some hotels but let’s face it that’s just acting and anyway I wasn’t trying to make friends with them! They did their job so that was fine with me. They do ask for photo ID, I had my driving licence so no problem. I travelled by train, the hotel is on a busy road so I don’t know where you’d park if you drove. I read the reviews after I’d booked and was a bit concerned but I can honestly say everything was fine as far as I was concerned. I wasn’t looking for luxury, it’s a fair price for a good location, everywhere was clean and tidy, nothing fancy but nothing wrong with it either. If you just want a clean central place to stay that close to all the main attraction it’s a good choice. Don’t be put off by others reviews."

"Our stay was fine, and it was great to stay in a hotel with a pool. The location was good and easy to find. The staff were pleasant but perhaps not as knowledgeable or skilled as they should be- eg didn’t know what was on the children’s menu )they didn’t have any printed) and then brought her a different dinner, having to repeat our orders as they had forgotten. Male staff in the gym could have been more polite. On both days there were no towels available and it seemed to put them out that they had to find us some. Plenty of parking but this is charged at £10 a night, which for a private car park for the hotel seems a lot to charge guests. Our room was fine, but the adjoining family room didn’t have any drawers or wardrobes (spare bedding in drawers) and no light but a lamp in the corner. The air con controls were set in both rooms and couldn’t be changed, but were very noisy when they fired up- enough to wake you. pool good, although decor could do with updating as is tired,not many keys available for the lockers. Sauna and steam was good. Jacuzzi was just an adjoining circle to the pool with bubbles, rather than a hot tub. Food was decent;dinner menu better than quality and range available for breakfast. Eggs other than scrambled had to be ordered when a waiter/chef was available. No mushrooms,sausages and bacon were ok but not particularly tasty. No pancakes or fresh bread other than presliced for toast. Coffee from a machine was fine. Ok but not a great Hilton"
