Top Cailhau Hotel Reviews

Hôtel Le Donjon - Coeur de la Cité Médiévale

8/10 Good

"The hotel was wonderful. The property itself was very interesting in a brilliant location. What let it down was the state of the bedroom and the bathroom. In a four-star hotel, you do not expect mold in the bathroom and stains and bald spots on the carpets in the bedroom. A nice hotel, a great location, but perhaps a little bit of updating needed in one of the bedrooms."

Hotel l'Octroi

8/10 Good

"The room was clean and staff very helpful. However, the room is very small and the bathroom is a wet room, meaning no separate shower from the rest of the bathroom. The shower wand is not user friendly and we didn’t realize when we turned on the water that it lterally sprayed across the room, wetting our bathroom countertop and personal items. No coffee in the room if you like having a cup first thing in the morning."

Résidence Carmina

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting the medieval city of Carcassonne. If you are looking for a central hotel at a reasonable price this is the perfect choice. The room was a spacious apartment with separate living/kitchenette and bedroom. The bathroom was spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the apartment was well furnished and clean. The residents of the hotel were friendly and I think it is a good idea to utilise the spare rooms for hotel guests. The hotel had secure parking as well."

Tribe Carcassonne

8/10 Good

"The hotel has a great view of the castle and the roof top bar is definitely a bonus. The room was clean and have everything we needed however the toilet was in what can only be described as a cupboard with no space at all. The decor was too dark so much so that we couldn’t find the light switches! The carpet was black and when we dropped a black hair brush on the floor it took us 10 Minutes to find it!"

Comfort Aparthotel Carcassonne

10/10 Excellent

"This was terrific value for money and would happily stay again. While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. All in all, very good."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Cailhau?

The best area to stay in Cailhau is within the village centre itself, particularly around the church and the main square.

This small, traditional village is the heart of the Cailhau experience. It's compact and very walkable, with most amenities, including a local shop and a couple of eateries, clustered around the central square and Grande Rue. You'll find a mix of stone houses and a peaceful, rural setting here.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find the village centre ideal. It offers a genuine taste of rural Occitanie, with opportunities for quiet strolls through vineyards and enjoying local produce. The ease of walking to dinner spots and enjoying the village atmosphere makes it very appealing for a relaxing holiday.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, perhaps in a gîte or villa with a garden, can be a great option.

When is the best time to go to Cailhau?

For most visitors, the best time to visit Cailhau is during the spring (late April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and vineyards. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season, allowing for a more relaxed experience when visiting local markets or enjoying outdoor activities.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will particularly appreciate the mild spring and autumn days. The vineyards are either bursting with new growth or displaying their autumnal colours, providing beautiful scenery for leisurely drives or walks. Many local producers also offer tastings during these seasons, which can be a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Families travelling with children might also find these shoulder seasons more enjoyable.
