This is a very ordinary hotel, despite the hot tubs, pool and spa. The decor is vile, all dull browns with turquoise. In the “Troutbeck” room there is a nasty trip hazard into the bathroom. A stubbed toe was annoying but a cracked skull would have been more so. Tip: if it’s not fixed put a rolled up hand towel down to fill the gap and catch your attention. Pillows were like sandbags and need immediate replacement. The mattress had an uncomfortable lump and was likely in need of replacement too. The hot tub was good, as was the jacuzzi bath. The fridge was handy, and the chairs comfortable enough for a short while. Free parking on site. The building is a maze of corridors and stairs. Regrettably the lift was out of order for the first 24 hours or so. As a walking stick user this was less than ideal. Breakfast was okay but not special. My choice of evening meal, “roast of the day”, was almost inedible. Vegetable selection poor. The wait staff were pleasant but scruffy, in contrast to the smart and highly exuberant maitre’d. It is far from being a gourmet restaurant and there are other places to eat."
