"Smoking room"
If I had a non smoking room, the review would be better. I had bad experience. The room is too smell.

"Wonderful place on the lake"
The location of the hotel is fabulous, right on the lake (you can't actually see Mount Fuji from the gardens). We didn't pay extra for a view and that was fine - although you may as well if you can afford it! The room size (and the bed size) was huge compared to everywhere else we stayed. The front desk were very helpful-let us check in early. There was always someone who was able to answer our questions about travelling round the area-they had reasonable English. The hotel provided a free pick up from Odawara station-about 45 mins drive. No wifi is available but there was an internet computer-100yen for 10 mins. The public baths were available both inside and out which is a pretty nice experience. The only negative experience was the food – 2 very expensive restaurants on site and no other options locally – and the Japanese restaurant was not able to provide vegetarian dinner even if we had wanted to pay that much. Anyway, its possible to get pot noodles and snacks from supermarket and stay in for a much cheaper dinner instead! Just be careful of making the most of the Hakone Freepass - the ropeway and lake cruises near the hotel are NOT covered by the pass. The first day we spent there being frustrated about spending so much and not being able to use the pass - but the view from the ropeway is fabulous and we did get to see Mount Fuji (10% discount with pass). Make sure you get over by bus to the ropeway and funincular and boats from Togendai to fully utilise the Freepass.

We stayed 4 nights. The breakfasts were excellent. My only concern was the double bed was against the wall which made it feel a bit uncomfortable. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay.

"Perfect location. Large rooms!"
Loved it! There's a convenient free bus service to the hotel (Contact the hotel in advance to make reservations from Odawara) Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who held our bags for us as we were quite early. The hotel exterior does show age, but the interior is clean and very well presented. We headed out via the rear entrance where there's access to a pirate ship that takes you across Lake Ashi to Hakone. (Buy Hakone Free pass at Odawara which gives you unlimited access to transport like the pirate ship, cable cars, buses etc for two days or more) The weather was forecast as cloudy with rain, but to our surprise it was warm and sunny so we were able to see Fuji throughout the day! After visiting various areas (such as the amazing Open Air Museum with Picasso exhibit) we returned to the hotel and were promptly shown to our room. The hotel staff actually came up to the room with us and explained things like how to use the air con etc. The room was huge. We'd booked a superior twin room as it was the only one available on expedia and was relatively inexpensive and it was big (not just by Japanese standards either) The ceilings were really high and we had huge windows with a beautiful view of lake Ashi. Outside of the hotel there isn't really much to do, but they do have a couple of very nice restaurants inside and a private bath area that you can hire for 45 minutes which was a very relaxing end to our day! Highly recommend this hotel!

"Close to Mishima Station."
I traveled alone and this single room was nice, clean, and roomy (vs. rooms in Tokyo). It had everything I found necessary for a pleasant stay. Wired and wireless Internet in my room did not require a password. A room safe would have been nice, but none in my room. There are keyed safes on the 12th floor where the communal baths are. The self serve laundry was great to use. Free use of the clothes washing machines and liquid detergents, but clothes drying machines are 100 yen for 20 minutes. So, plan on checking your laundry every 20 minutes and bring 100 yen coins with you since there are no coin change machines next to the laundry machines. Dry blue jeans separate and plan on maybe 60 minutes of drying time. I paid for breakfast to be included with my room. The food was great! Japanese breakfast or Western style breakfast. I ate both. It is self serve buffet style. Eat as much as you want. The dining area is small, but it wasn't crowded each morning I went there. I was always able to find a seat. I ate around 8:30am each day. Vending machines are on the 12th and 8th floor. The 8th floor only vends drinks. The 12th floor vending machines vends drinks and cup ramen. The cup ramen price (Nissin shoyu flavor 150 yen) is reasonable if you don't want to walk all the way to the convenience store. This hotel is about a 7 minute walk from Mishima Station. There are some restaurants nearby. A "Family Mart" convenience store is also nearby.
