View paintings and sculptures by past masters and more recent works designed to confront and challenge at one of the country’s most popular art institutions.

Founded in 1897, the Tate Liverpool is one of four acclaimed Tate Galleries spread across Britain. With an overall collection of just under 70,000 works and with experience mounting blockbuster shows across the globe, art-lovers are assured a memorable experience at the Tate Liverpool.

Whenever you visit, you’ll be sure to catch one of the Tate Liverpool’s world-class exhibitions. Past shows have included retrospectives of masters such as Chagall, Monet and Picasso as well as more confronting artists such as the Chapman Brothers. There is always a large assortment of work from the National Collection to enjoy, such as paintings from Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock.

The Tate Liverpool also showcases works at the cutting edge of the art spectrum such as abstract 3-D pieces, multimedia installations and performance art. Once you’ve explored the various halls and galleries, rest your feet and catch the screening of an avant-garde film followed by a question and answer session with the creators.

Take a guided tour of the gallery for a more in-depth look at some of the key works on display and into the minds that created them. If you are feeling inspired, stop at the Art Dock to explore abstraction and create your own 2- or 3-D art. This room also offers the perfect opportunity for the whole family to take time out and relax with views over Albert Dock. A programme of free workshops throughout the year offers visitors the chance to learn more about the art in the museum in a fun and sociable environment.

A gift shop offers a wide range of art materials, prints and publications, as well as many products designed exclusively for the Tate. The café has great views and free meals to children under 12 years of age when accompanied by adults ordering mains.

Tate Liverpool is open daily and admission is free. The city centre, with its multiple train and bus stations, is just a short walk away.
