The hotel is located very near the bus and train station. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very courteous and professional, the gave us all the information we needed and were able to give recommendations and make a couple of event reservation for us. The room was very clean and comfortable. The food was amazing at a very decent price and the staff again was wonderful. I would definately recommend this hotel and would stay there again when I go back to Madrid.
The Unico Hotel lived up to the reviews and my expectations. I usually look for more economical hotels, but decided to splurge, and needless to say it was worth every penny. The staff and lobby are very welcoming and they had snacks and drinks readily available as we checked in. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The Goya metro spot is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The neighborhood is pretty sleepy after hours, but it is definitely safe and peaceful.
"Comfortable Hotel, Great Breakfast, Good Location"
Room was comfortable and clean. We could have used a little more storage space. There were no drawers and just a few shelves in the small closet to put our non-hanging clothes on. We stayed for a week and this was a small issue.
The breakfast was excellent and was available until 1030 in the morning, 1100 on the weekend.
The metro station was only a couple blocks (less than 10 minutes) away. The center of madrid (Plaza Major) is about 5 stops on the metro.
To get from the airport we took the number 200 city bus to the Avenida de America bus station ("Intercambiador") and then walked the four blocks to the hotel. It's an express bus that only makes a couple stops along the way. The price is one and a half euros, paid on the bus. (A taxi costs 30 euros)
North of the Retiro, Salamanca has always been an affluent neighbourhood. Its grid-like streets and beautiful houses sprang up at the end of the 19th century, escaping from the old city walls. Today, ladies who lunch drop into its spas and designer shops, many of which line the long, sleek Calle Serrano. The National Library and the Museum of Archaeology are close to the Plaza de Colón.
