"I found the hotel was very handy with the 24 hour desk especially as flight was delayed and missed the last train to Lucca and had to get a taxi. Staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and airy. Would highly recommend"

"If you're looking for a place to stay to explore Lucca, this is an excellent choice. A clean and comfortable place just a 5 minutes walk from The Wall and great price. Be sure to confirm that breakfast is included at this B&B - ours was not."

We visited the San Luca Palace in September. The rooms are magnificent. Clean and spacious. The hotel is very close to the town centre (about a 5 minute walk to the Duomo).
Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good and the staff calm and attentive.
There is also a very good restaurant about 3 doors down from the hotel.
Can’t recommend highly enough!

We stayed in room 9. We loved the unusual decor, cleanliness, the friendly staff, the good size of shower (not being the thinest of people), the air conditioning that worked really well, breakfast and the drinks and bits to eat in the basement dining room availability 24 hours per day. It also has a car park which was a worry if it did not have one.
The only issue we had was the place has no lift which meant we had to leave our large suitcase in the car.

We stayed here for one night and were very pleased with the room which was in the older building a few steps away. Lovely large comfortable room. All staff were helpful and friendly. Happy to arrange taxis or dinner for you. The coffee and snacks provided in the reception area were a welcome treat as was the complementary fizz served at 5 pm!. If I’m the area again would stay here!

Had a fabulous stay. The room was large and very clean. The staff were friendly especially the receptionist. We enjoyed the restaurant that had local choices and I can recommend finishing with the sweet wine and homemade biscotti! Lucca is a wonderful town and very easy to get to from the hotel. We spent the morning in town and the afternoon by the hotel pool. Perfect!

My son and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night out the 3 on our visit to Tuscany as we were flying out of Pisa the following morning. The hotel has a good mix of old and new furnishings and décor. Fabulous bathrooms though a wee bit small. Just the right amount of choice at breakfast in a pleasant conservatory. Also a very spacious terrace for sitting out or relaxing on a sun lounger with a drink from the bar service at reception. Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would like to return in the...

Valentina and Pietro were both amazing. Property location was perfect. Clean, different and facilities were excellent. Loved the fact that Valentina kept in touch all through our stay and sent helpful guides and map to us. Also lovely pictures of Lucca.
We will return.

This is a lovely hotel in the centre of Lucca, 10 minutes from the station, although a little climb to get through the city walls.
The continental breakfast was welcome, although a little strange that you had to approach the staff for a coffee or hot water rather than the other way round.

Wonderful hotel in a quiet street in the heart of Lucca, near the amphiteatro. The rooms are beautifully decorated with frescos, comfortable and with all facilities. Breakfast is a highlight with choices to suit everyone. The staff are friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. One of the best hotels we have stayed in anywhere.

We arrived 2 hours early but our room was ready and were taken straight up. The room itself was gorgeous, really authentic and old looking but spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and the mini bar was stocked with treats at a very reasonable price.
The hotel is inside the walls and is right in the heart of the town. All the restaurants were only 5-10 mins walk away with some really nice Cafe/Bars around too. We took a train to Florence on 1 day and the train was only 14 Euro's and it...

This was my 2nd stay here. The location was perfect : a quiet part of the city, within the walls, so all the main attractions were close by. The staff were very friendly and and would do anything to help to make the stay a good one. They also spoke English, which was a bonus. I would definitely use this hotel again.

The best area to stay in Massa Macinaia, Tuscany, is within the village itself or the immediate surrounding countryside for an authentic and tranquil experience.
Massa Macinaia is a small, traditional Tuscan village located in the hills just south-east of Lucca. It's characterised by its quiet, winding lanes, stone buildings, and local amenities like a small grocery shop and a couple of local eateries. The village is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, offering picturesque views and a feeling of being truly in the heart of Tuscany.
Couples looking for a romantic and peaceful retreat will find Massa Macinaia ideal. You can enjoy strolls through the village and the surrounding countryside, savouring the quiet pace of life. It's also well-positioned for day trips to Lucca, Florence, and Pisa without being in the midst of tourist crowds. Many villas and agriturismos in the area offer private pools and stunning views, superb for a relaxing holiday together.
For families, staying in a villa or a larger farmhouse just outside the main village offers more space and privacy. These properties often come with ample gardens, private pools, and outdoor dining areas, providing a fantastic base for children to play and for parents to relax.
When is the best time to go to Massa Macinaia?
The best times to visit Massa Macinaia are during the shoulder seasons of May, June, and September, when the weather is pleasant and the region is less crowded.
May and June offer warm, sunny days superb for exploring the Tuscan countryside. The vineyards and olive groves are lush, and the temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities like cycling or walking. You'll find local festivals beginning to take place, offering a glimpse into regional traditions without the peak summer crowds.
September is another excellent choice, providing a continuation of warm weather after the peak summer season. This month is particularly appealing as it coincides with the grape harvest, known as vendemmia, which is a significant event in the region. Many wineries offer special tours and tasting experiences during this time. The cooler evenings also make for a pleasant dining experience outdoors.
While July and August are popular, they are also the hottest and busiest months.
