The George of Colchester

"Absolutely beautiful hotel and lovely staff. You are made to feel valued and welcome from everyone. The housekeeping staff are non intrusive, efficient and respectful of your privacy. The pub stuff are phenomenal, excellent and quick service with perfectly made cocktails. The breakfast/dining room is beautiful. The food is fresh, served quickly and the host and serving staff are kind and friendly. I cannot say enough good things about the ladies at reception. They were so helpful with my package deliveries trying to get my son set up at uni. They laughed along with me at the ridiculous packaging I would receive and were so gracious, thoughtful and helpful. The owners of this hotel and their guests are incredibly lucky to have such amazing staff to look after them. With more trips to Colchester coming, this will be my choice every time. I look forward to their welcoming smiles and a perfectly made espresso martini! Thank you so much for turning a difficult and stressful trip into a fantastic experience. Truly one of a kind!"

"We chose this property because of proximity to Colchester and Colchester Zoo and ample parking. We stayed in a room with garden view and were not disturbed by noise from the road. Room was spacious and breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. Included were cereals, yoghurt, fruit juice and hot drinks."

The North Hill Hotel, Colchester

"The ground floor bar and entrance is lovely but that theme didn't follow to the rooms. Perhaps I should have paid for a better room but I was hoping for the same vibe upstairs. Rather than sleek and quirky it was more student basic in my opinion. The paint on the ceiling in the bedroom and the bathroom were peeling off and there was black on the ceiling above the shower. The room was functional. However the team were polite, friendly and efficient and instead of working in my room I worked downstairs in the relaxed bar area. I didn't have breakfast but when I checked out a couple were having what looked and smelled like I lovely cooked breakfast! I would stay again but would go for an upgrade room and hope it was more like those in the pictures."

"My room was clean and spacious. Twin in the separate wing. Food in the restaurant was awful at dinner and they’d be better serving basic English food rather than attempting foreign cuisine. It was adequate for my purpose of dropping off a teen at university. Parking was great although very full, WiFi good and location central. All being said I’d stay again when I visit the university."
