First things first. The motel was clean and I felt safe. Other than that is nothing fancy but it is in a very convenient location. If you can handle walking the S.F. hill you should be able to walk to a lot of attractions. Have the free covered parking is definitely a plus. There were no lobby with amenities and if you have a room on the front side of the building the traffic noise can be a problem.
Our Sat Nav took us to the door of the Cow Hollow Inn & we found a parking place immediately in the underground parking provided (free) The reception staff were very helpful and gave us great advise on how to cover much of the city in the 2 days we had there.
The room was very spacious and comfortable, tea/coffee facilities, fridge etc. Nice room in a safe location with plenty of diners, restaurants and bars nearby
The only criticism was that there was some traffic noise at night, double glazing would help, not too disruptive and a great stop overall.
Parking is my only complaint for the motel, they made the spaces small to fit as many cars as possible. I know it is SF. Luckily, the stall next to my passenger side was empty, when I needed to leave. The air conditioning kept the room cool during the 90° days. It seems they recently remodeled the room. It had hardwood floors, a 3 way adjustable shower, microwave and fridge.
My wife and I just returned from only a couple of vacations days in Frisco and were looking for a well located hotel at a reasonable price range, that would be mainly used for sleeping (since we planned to be out most of the time). The first impression of the Francisco Bay Inn was not the best. From the outside it looked like a cheap, run-down, road-side motel, but our impression changed in the minute we registered at the front desk since the reception was very welcoming and warming. The room itself was well sized, clean, with TV, refrigerator, AC but without any special amenities or charm. The breakfast was a tray of doughnuts, a bottle of hot water and a can of instant coffee placed on a small table at the reception. Not fancy at all but not bad either, if you do not mind eating on-the-go or taking it to the room.
All that being said, our stay was uneventful. The location was very good, walking distance (if you like to walk) to restaurants, bars and the wharf region. And with a distant view of the Golden Brigde.
We recommend the hotel to anyone that is not looking for luxury or spending much time in the hotel.
Hope that helps!
"very little parking, better at weeknd park on str."
run by nice Indian family. BRKFST included, but minimum you have to go to the tiny reception with the tray from your room and eat on your bed or seat outside on the stairs like most guests! A few PARKING spaces in small courtyard (1st come 1st served), at the weekend you can park on the street for free but the car has to be removed before 6am on Monday. The LOCATION is GREAT for the GG Bridge, Muir Woods, Fisherman Wharf, George Lucas Studio, GG Park and of course Lombard Street, China Town, Painted Ladies (Steiner Str.). Our room on 1st floor has 2 double beds, one fridge but was not very clean, a lot of accumulated dust around the walls and skirting bed, the switches were dirty, the bed linen not ironed. We went back to the hotel late every day just to sleep and shower
but because of location I would recommend it. On Lombard street 5 mn on foot you have an Ihop open 24hrs for brkfst or by car go to Polkers on Polk Str and walk from there to the crooked part of Lombard str.
