"This was terrific value for money and would happily stay again. While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. All in all, very good."

Top Gardie Hotel Reviews

Hotel du Pont Vieux, au pied de la Cité Médiévale

10/10 Excellent

"Location was just brilliant. Staff were so helpful and accommodating. Our room on the top floor was perfect, with an amazing view of the cite. The rooftop terrace was also wonderful. Stairs to get up there are steep and numerous, but there’s a comfy bed when you reach the room though! Welcome drinks were such a lovely surprise too. We will return to see the cite, and will probably stay here again. Loved it"

Hotel l'Octroi

8/10 Good

"The room was clean and staff very helpful. However, the room is very small and the bathroom is a wet room, meaning no separate shower from the rest of the bathroom. The shower wand is not user friendly and we didn’t realize when we turned on the water that it lterally sprayed across the room, wetting our bathroom countertop and personal items. No coffee in the room if you like having a cup first thing in the morning."

Résidence Carmina

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting the medieval city of Carcassonne. If you are looking for a central hotel at a reasonable price this is the perfect choice. The room was a spacious apartment with separate living/kitchenette and bedroom. The bathroom was spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the apartment was well furnished and clean. The residents of the hotel were friendly and I think it is a good idea to utilise the spare rooms for hotel guests. The hotel had secure parking as well."

Tribe Carcassonne

8/10 Good

"The hotel has a great view of the castle and the roof top bar is definitely a bonus. The room was clean and have everything we needed however the toilet was in what can only be described as a cupboard with no space at all. The decor was too dark so much so that we couldn’t find the light switches! The carpet was black and when we dropped a black hair brush on the floor it took us 10 Minutes to find it!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Gardie?

The best area to stay in Gardie is the village centre, particularly around the main square and the streets immediately surrounding it.

This central part of Gardie offers a delightful blend of convenience and authentic village life. You'll find a selection of local shops, a boulangerie for your morning pastries, and a few welcoming eateries, all within easy walking distance. The main square often hosts small markets or local gatherings, providing a real sense of the community. The architecture here is typically traditional Occitan, with stone houses and narrow, winding lanes.

Couples looking for a romantic and tranquil escape will find the village centre particularly appealing. You're close enough to enjoy leisurely strolls, discover hidden coursing, and dine at local restaurants without needing a car every time you step out. It's an ideal base for experiencing the quiet charm of the French countryside together.

For families, staying within the village centre offers the convenience of having amenities close at hand, reducing the need for constant car journeys. Children can enjoy the open space of the village square, and parents will appreciate the ease of picking up groceries or a quick meal.

When is the best time to go to Gardie?

The best time to visit Gardie is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

Spring offers pleasant weather, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the rolling hills and vineyards of the Occitanie region. The countryside is lush and green, and the wildflowers are in bloom. It's a lovely time for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling through the scenic trails around Gardie itself, or visiting nearby towns like Carcassonne without the summer crowds.

Autumn also provides comfortable temperatures, typically between 18°C and 28°C, and the landscape transforms with the rich colours of the grape harvest. This period is particularly good for those interested in wine tasting and experiencing local festivals related to the harvest.
