"Best hotel ever. "
I have too many positive things to say to list them all. This is honesty the best lodging experience of my life. Great room. Great food. Peacocks! The best service in the know universe. Sample discontinued rare Scotch in the whisky room. If you find yourself in Edinburgh, stay at Prestonfield House. You won't regret it.

"Lovely hotel in charming neighborhood"
We stayed for 3 nights as a family and booked 2 rooms. We loved the hotel, which has a great restaurant, friendly staff and is in a less touristy area. Some of the rooms can be quirky so if you are not ok with a small bathroom be sure to ask for details. Also a bit of a walk to the Royal Mile, though quite scenic and fun. A charming and very Scottish experience.

"Lovely helpful staff"
Room quite small, but surprisingly comfortable, slept like a log. Staff were lovely and friendly. Slight shame in not having a lift available, but only slight, the staff and comfortable room made up for it.

"In a happening part of town."
From the pictures on the Expedia and hotel sites, I thought I was getting a modern room with lots of light. Unfortunately, instead of the room I expected, I got an extremely funky room (in an adjoining building, down several steps from the elevator served floor) with a dark painted (peeling) beam ceiling, a throw back kind of "chaise longue", tiny bedside tables, and an armoire which was small. There was a working desk and a cute old desk which I used to store my folded items. The bathroom was quite modern. The light level was only decent during the sunny hours. At dusk and at night, there was not enough light to read. I asked for another light and received a floor lamp with a 40 watt bulb. The sconces were equally dim, having colored glass shades. There was no safe in the room, and I had to hand over valuables to the front desk to put into their general locked area. There was no receipt offered until I asked for one. The staff were mostly helpful. Leave some extra time if you need a cab as they have to call one for you, though it was fairly quick. The room had normal single glazed windows which did not block the street sounds, esp. the bag piper (bad) who played continuously till 7 pm. The room had no air-conditioning, and because of street noise, an open window was not an option until about midnight.

"Stay at The Howard Hotel"
We had a three night stay at The Howard Hotel, we were booked to stay in the petit small room, I phoned up as I was concerned the room might be a bit small for a couple, having read some reviews after booking the room. When we arrived we were upgraded to a larger room which was lovely. Andrew the Head Butler was very welcoming and helpful, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautifully refurbished Grade II listed building in a fantastic central location, within walking distance to all tourist attractions and shopping. The area is a bit noisy at night because of nearby clubs and bars. There is no lift in the hotel, and many rooms are situated up several flights of stairs. There is no air conditioning in the rooms and some rooms receive direct sunlight all afternoon making them very hot. The water pressure is very low and the bathrooms have rain shower heads, so the water pressure is even further minimized. The restaurants attached to the hotel are expensive and mediocre.

"Very nice hotel. Everyone was lovely. "
We stayed in the lodge. Everything was very nice. Room was nice and tidy. Really appreciated the lovely sherry after a 4 hour drive. Bed was comfortable. The cooked to order breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Hotel location is very convenient to getting into town centre. You can catch a but right outside the hotel and buses run regularly until very late. Wold definitely recommend and would stay here again.

"Wonderful Stay - Would Do It Again!"
After staying at hostels in Scotland for 2 weeks, our last night at 24 Royal Terrace was like paradise! We stayed in the Apartment #1 downstairs and loved every minute of it! The bathroom facilities were incredibly accommodating and it was nice having the kitchenette there as well. The bar upstairs, rt's was awesome! The food (brekkie, lunch or dinner) was delicious and reasonably priced. It was great being able to just go upstairs to eat and knowing it was going to be tasty! I would recommend this to anyone staying in Edinburgh who wants to be off the beaten path but still within walking distance.
