My door key didn't work and I had to make few trips back to the lobby upon arrival. The manager came out and upgraded my room to this amazing junior suite with the view of the river and downtown. Their bath products are AMAZING!
Got to the hotel and they front desk said our king room was not available. They whispered something about Expedia and apologized that they had two queens even though we paid for the upgrade. She did make up for it by comping the valet. The room was clean and comfortable, but it's irritating to not get what you pay for.
"Good Downtown Location, beware Construction Noise!"
The staff was very friendly, and efforted to check us in almost 2 hours early despite the fact that we were willing to eat lunch in the bar and wait for the best available room. Fortunately, they checked us into a room on the NORTH side of the hotel since there is a building going up on the SOUTH side of the hotel. That alone made most of the room shortcomings worthwhile.
Weekend construction noise made sitting on the upstairs bar patio difficult but I really enjoy the bar and food menu there--in the evening it's a lot more quiet than other hotel bars close by, the drinks are good, and I believe you get better service here than some of the other hotels in the area.
I'm not sure I would spend extra on the room upgrade, though. Once we called down to have an engineer electrically unlock the mini-fridge it seemed silly to keep calling them to ask for an extra bath robe, to guide us through the internet login, to replace the power port on the desk, etc. Instead we headed down to the bar and then left for dinner with friends.
I live in Austin and will stay here again, or stop in the bar if I'm downtown. I doubt I will again spring for the most expensive room available on Expedia, though.
The staff at the Hyatt Place Downtown Austin is superb! From the front desk all the way to the maintenance staff, they are fantastic. Everyone I encountered was warm, kind, helpful and seemed genuinely happy! Whatever you are doing to keep your employees that happy, keep doing it!
Keep up the good work and I will keep staying there and continue recommending your property!
