Nice hotel, away from the tourist area.

Posted 14-Apr-2017
Pros: Great location, nice room and beautiful building.
Cons: More staff
Great hotel in an idyllic location. The bedroom was large and comfortable (King size room) and the food was very tasty with a good and varied selection. I suggest to the manager that he needs to employ morer staff as the 2 girls that seemed to be doing everything, checking in, serving in the bar and waiting in the restaurant, were way to busy and were working extremely hard. They were very pleasant in spite of being busy but we had to wait a little while between courses and then getting an extra drink after the meal. A great hotel and we would definately use again when we next visit the lakes.

Lake District

Posted 07-Apr-2017
Good location, quiet with good facilities. Directions to find the hotel were confusing. The hotel has a sign stating "Irton Hall, the Lake Districts hidden gem", which it lives up to, but directions could be better

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting

Posted 27-Mar-2017
We stayed for one night with our dog Denzil and absolutely loved it. The setting is wonderful and close to Wasdale for hiking etc. The breakfast was very good and the food in the restaurant was great too. The staff were extremely friendly and a credit to the family run business. The hotel is dog friendly and Denzil was welcomed by everyone. Our only disappointment was that we only stayed for one night so we will return very soon.

Gets better every stay

Posted 05-Feb-2017
Pros: Everything
Cons: Keep on doing what your doing
Location: The western lakes, and towns are easy accessible.
Stayed for one night with friends, rooms were cosy and spacious, clean and fantastic views, The food was hot and scrumptious, all locally sourced. Staff at irton are always smiling, courteous, and helpful,it's a dog friendly place, which didn't put us off, dogs are allowed in the bar area, but not in the dining room, check in and out was fast. Breakfast is hot and filling, Thanks guys for another great irton experiance.

Fantastic position with a very good outlook. Hotel itself was well appointed and the restaurant was reasonably priced and food was excellent. Cottage was well appointed and comfortable would definitely stay again.

Great Food - Worth two hours travel alone

Posted 23-Jan-2017 on Hotels
Another fantastic stay at Irton Hall.....After a hard week at work, it is worth the 2 hour drive to enjoy a night at Irton Hall. Check-in is hassle free and within 5 minutes of arriving I was in the bar checking out what beers were available. I settled for the Golden sheep which was in excellent condition. The bar / restaurant was quite busy but we were able to find a nice table and sat down to relax. The main whilst not extensive caters for every palate but I always tend to go for something on the specials board as the chef here really knows how to mix up a treat. Hence I went for the port loin with blue cheese, black pudding roasted veg and potatoes. My partner was thinking about the Stone Bass but did not like the idea of it being served with chorizo. I asked the lady serving if it could be ordered without the chorizo and like everything else at Irton Hall, it was "no problem". The food was served in a timely manner befitting freshly prepared dishes of this quality and complexity. The food was fantastic and we finished off with the Passion Fruit Cheesecake for my partner and I had the White chocolate Tartlet. Both again fantastic. After a few more drink we went to the bedroom which was well equipped as usual. The room had a large king size bed with fresh comfortable bedding. A Jacuzzi bath in the bathroom is an added treat. Nice little touches like free bottled water in the fridge. After a good nights sleep I was looking forward to the breakfast. Fantastic again.

Friendly Irton Hall,and Unspoilt Eskdale

Posted 22-Jan-2017 on Hotels
-Staff were very efficient and friendly-particularly to our dog ! -Food was excellent-particularly the lamb with "Tattie pot" potatoes. -We are fairly local-Penrith-but visiting Eskdale provided a new experience for us,in terms of landscape and attractions. It is unspoilt, with lots of easy walking at valley bottom level, much to see,and plenty of places to eat and drink along the way. The only improvement we would suggest at Irton Hall would be to make the dining room less "functional",and turn down the Musak ! It might be OK for business trips, but it's less congenial for couples enjoying a quiet break.
