Reception staff particularly helpful. Room was great
Close to shopping, great gym, friendly staff & clean
Very much liked the location and layout. Our only problem was that the air con was not working at all so we had to have the window open as it was very warm. This meant that there was considerable street noise.
Very good location. This hotel had only an expensive steak house restaurant - no breakfast facility, although the usual coffee places were nearby.
Loved everything. Very polite staff breakfast was yummy. The kind lady at reception let us check in a little earlier so we didnt miss our concert
It was clean, staff friendly but a bit of a strange smell on the landing . Room ok though.
Loved the rooms and the checkout time. Ideal. The staff werent the friendliest unfortunately but the hotel was great.
Good restaurant with great dining options an extensive menu catering for all types of diet
Favourite hotel we’ve stayed at for years; highly recommend it
The Capitol Shopping Centre is one of the most up-to-date retail experiences in Cardiff, and staying in a city centre hotel will not only put you near to the retail centre, but also within easy reach of many of the city’s high spots, its cultural attractions and restaurants.
The shopping centre has been attracting customers since it opened in 1990, with architecture inspired by many of the surrounding Victorian arcades. However, a mere nine years later, the style was deemed to look dated, and the Capitol Centre underwent a massive, £10m overhaul and reopened in 1999.
The emphasis on shopping in the centre is on high-end women’s fashion. Some of the most well-respected retailers have a presence here, and are proud to be associated with the centre’s reputation as a destination in the centre of Cardiff. These include established brands such as Accessorize, Austin Reed, H&M and Jaeger. These sit happily next to more recently established outlets that include Moda In Pelle, Muskaan, Phase Eight and Taking Shape.
Sitting comfortably alongside the retail outlets is a wide variety of cafés, both licensed and unlicensed, food outlets, a gym and the centre’s own nightclub. High street favourites such as Caffé Nero and Pret A Manger exist happily alongside the independent Café Caribe.
Pulse nightclub is what makes the Capitol Shopping Centre come alive at night, when on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays the basement offers a wide variety of contemporary entertainment. Musical performing and recording stars including The Wanted and Alexandra Burke have made special appearances in the nightclub, along with Wales’ favourite, Charlotte Church. During the day, the ground floor café bar offers food and drinks, for which it has twice won the Pink Paper award for Wales’ best café bar/restaurant.
The Capitol Shopping Centre is not just a place to shop, or have a snack or coffee, but is also a popular place to meet for people who live or work in the centre of the city, either at lunchtime or before heading out to enjoy the wealth of nightlife that Cardiff city centre has to offer.
One of the highlights of the centre is the recently opened Premiere Cinema. The movie theatre includes five screens showing the latest British and Hollywood releases in comfort that includes luxury rocker seating and plenty of legroom while patrons enjoy films delivered by the latest laser digital projection. There is also a licensed bar within the theatre, which is open seven days a week. With choices like these nearby, booking one of the many hotels in the city centre of Cardiff, which range from budget bed and breakfast to luxury, from bijou boutique to old style opulence, puts style, culture and entertainment on your doorstep. After a day’s shopping, you can choose from dining in your hotel then relaxing in comfort, or heading out to enjoy the many and varied evening entertainment options that have made the city so popular with locals and visitors alike.
