Decent enough 4*star hotel but lacking in certain respects. No fridge in room. No dressing gown to wear in the evening. Rather dated and dreary dinner menu (although breakfast first class). Go by all means but make sure you get an offer. Don't pay full price.

From castles and stately houses to country walks and riverside strolls, Berkshire is the perfect place for an overnight, weekend or longer romantic break. The towns of Maidenhead, Newbury, Reading and Windsor all have cosy restaurants, while pretty villages such as Farley Wood and Grazeley are ideal for hand-in-hand strolling and escaping the crowds. Windsor Great Park, a former royal hunting forest is a 5000 acre deer park and home to some mighty old oak trees, while Wellington Country Park is great for picnics. Make the most of your romantic hotel break in Berkshire by exploring everything this beautiful county has on offer with someone special!
The River Thames winds its way through Berkshire en route to London. Here you'll find it passes through some delightful towns and countryside, affording plenty of opportunity for meandering and gentle strolling. There are also several locks on the Thames as it winds its way through Berkshire such as Cleeve Lock and Sonning Lock where you can take a break and indulge in a cream tea. Elsewhere, Hosehill Lake in Thatcham is a nature reserve with a winding path with lots of seating and bird viewing areas at frequent intervals. The path runs through meadows and past ponds, making it a tranquil spot for those long, romantic walks.
Highclere Castle in Newbury is home to the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. This country house in the Jacobean style is set in 5000 acres with a park designed by Capability Brown. Highclere has a suite of opulent state rooms including a fascinating permanent exhibition of Egyptian artefacts. Highclere Castle is always a high point when exploring Berkshire, but in recent years, it's become even more popular with visitors thanks to its role as the country house used in the hugely popular drama Downton Abbey.
A romantic hotel stay in this romantic county is both heart-warming and totally relaxing. Indulge yourself in sumptuous surroundings, beautiful rooms and excellent facilities. Rooms are available in a range of sizes and accessible rooms are also available if reserved in advance. And of course, there's always a 'Do Not Disturb' door hanger available for those romantic evenings in!
