"Excellent hotel within walking distance of centre "
Great hotel, excellent staff. Very new and well kept facilities eg computer and printer for guests to use, nice seating areas and quirky décor etc. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and helped with booking museum tickets and helping with transport and directions.
This isn't your typical youth hostel. For starters there are private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. For people past their college years this is a big plus. There were many college students staying at the hotel though. In my first room, the window couldn't close completely. The breakfast buffet isn't worth what they asked for it. You have to pay for everything by credit/debit card 'cause they don't take cash for anything. When I checked out, the front desk clerk on Aug. 13th at about 6am (a young African man) asked me for 2 Euro's which I thought was odd. I paid with a coin and remembered later they don't take cash and thought I had already paid for this when I checked-in. Other than that, this is a nice place and much cheaper then other hotels in Amsterdam.
"Away from city, good base if you want to cycle. "
Nice hotel, had a quadruple room, so kids in full sized proper beds separated from main room by door. They had views to two sides! Breakfast had good range of English and continental, delicious pain au chocolate. View over adjoining pool, public not part of hotel. Nude jogger round pool grounds entertaining at breakfast until he turned his back to us and touched his toes. Bar is nice, ate out as poor choice for veggies.
The hotel staff were very polite and welcoming, just what you needed after being on the road for hours in the car.
The hotel staff provided us with lots of information and tram routes on how to get around the centre of Amsterdam which was very helpful.
The hotel was situation in a quiet location so we had a great nights sleep.
Nice hotel in a new building. A little tricky to find the reception desk (on the 4th floor) but signage was adequate. I stayed in a Single room which was small but efficiently and thoughtfully designed. Nice sized flat screen tv, comfortable bed, and a usable balcony with two chairs.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Only negative was how the bathroom was designed: water from the shower would flow into the rest of the bathroom (unless you took your towels and laid them on the floor to make a wall). The shower only had a 1/2 wall and there was no curtain.
With that being said, I would likely return and would recommend to others.
Stayed here with my boyfriend on a 5 day trip to Amsterdam and firstly we noticed just how close to Sloterdijk Station the hotel was, the staff were very kind and thorough, assisting us with our luggage to our room, but the room itself was perfect. A spacious twin pushed together to effectively make one large bed, ideal for late night tv viewing, etc. Kitchenette came in handy for storing breakfast items (did not partake of the breakfast provided by the hotel), the bathroom was small but an ensuite is a must (if you can afford the extra), and the general comfort of the room made us almost never want to leave and explore the city.
This combination of 4 residential neighborhoods lies west of the 5 concentric canals surrounding the city center. Westerpark's brick buildings and green spaces are popular with artists and host many cultural events. Kinkerstraat street in Oud-West features many ethnic cafes and small shops. Most city attractions, including Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, and Red Light District are within 3 km.
