Although a very well positioned hotel and a well done newly renovated hotel to match, me and my family encountered a rather strange ocurrance mid stay. We stayed 4 nights and on the 3rd night the air conditioning broke down on our floor (4th floor). We were offered a new room but declined as we had just started to watch a movie and temperature was fine with window open. But suddenly we got a call from reception saying, "Somebody was coming to our room because we needed to sign a document." Now, this statement was alittle confusing as no explanation was given why. Very unprofessional and rather worrying. I asked the receptionist what this was all about and the response I was given was," in Amsterdam people take drugs and if their hotel window is open they can jump outside." Now as you can imagine we were massively concerned by the crazy and wild statement and also felt a very unsecure feeling. A security guard came to our room 20 minutes later, walked straight to our room window and seemingly observed and inspected our window and did not explain what he was doing and did not even show us a form to either read nor sign. It was at this point I suspected this man was here to check we had not tampered with our window lock, which of course we had not. I asked the security man what this was all about, we are feeling very violated etc and he seemed to have no sincere explanation. At this point I asked him to leave our room and insisted a manager come. We were very saddened.
