  • Oman Luxury holidays

Oman is found on the Persian Gulf, bordering the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and with coastline on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Evidence of human history in the country dates back over 100,000 years to the Stone Age, and Europe's first major arrival was in the early 1500s, when the Portuguese colonised Muscat. European influences can still be seen in the city, as well as elsewhere in Oman, although for many visitors it is not the architecture, but the coastline that forms the main attraction.

    Must-see Muscat

Muscat is an excellent destination for any type of luxury break in Oman, with a good number of beaches easily accessible from the city. These sandy havens are adding traditional holiday tourism to Oman's economy, and rapidly increasing its status as a destination on the world stage. The more popular beaches are served by the usual amenities, including restaurants and snack bars, and the conditions are naturally quite refreshing thanks to a sea breeze that blows in on a daily basis. Activities off the coast range from diving to turtle 'safaris' and dolphin watching, while kite surfing is also a popular pastime among local residents.

    Oman's scorched-Earth interior

Away from the coast, the temperatures begin to rise significantly, but many people still brave the heat of the sun in order to visit the interior of Oman for a range of different cultural tourism activities. You can go camel trekking through the desert sands, making for a spectacular photo opportunity. There are also many caves to be found in Oman's landscape, although you should be cautious about exploring these if you are inexperienced.

    When should I visit Oman?

Unless you like it hot - very hot infact- you will probably want to make your visit in the cooler winter months. In the Persian Gulf, 'cool' is a relative term, and even the coldest days will only just drop below the 20°C threshold usually. Muscat measures a fairly bearable summertime temperature of 33°C on average, but Oman's interior highs have been recorded in excess of 50°C. The summer season is long, lasting from April all the way through until October, so if you are on the hunt for some warmer weather than you can get back home, there should be plenty of opportunity to get it in Oman.
