All the secrets of Adeje
If you choose to spend a few days’ holiday in Adeje, we recommend you explore this mountain village before heading off to its beaches. Take a stroll to Plaza de España square, a busy meeting place during the town’s traditional festivities. At its centre stands the tower of the Museum of Sacred Art, a space dedicated to an exhibition of Gobelin tapestries and other unique religious pieces.
In the square you’ll also find the church of Santa Úrsula, dating from the 17th century. Admire the Mudéjar-style ceiling and the idol that crowns the belfry, two elements of great tourist interest. Opposite is the Convento de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y San Pablo, a convent that’s accessed through a victory arch of stonework columns with Corinthian capitals.
Check out the imposing exterior of the Casa Fuerte, a building that dates back to the 16th century. Originally, this residence of the Ponte family was part of the defensive structure of the town against attacks from pirates, but was later used to store sugar cane.
