We would definitely stay here again. Nice hotel, and nice rooms. A little older but all in all, everything was in pretty good shape. They kept the room nice and clean for us.
This place was about location for us. It was super convenient, easily able to walk into the middle of Chiang Mai to visit all the temples, and the street stalls they set up on the edge of the town square (super close). And for those that enjoy Thai massages like my husband and I did, there are a few cheap massage places within a few hundred yards of the hotel. It was nice to end our day with a relaxing (and cheap!) foot massage and then just walk across the street to our room :)
The staff was friendly and helpful. They provided a free shuttle service for us to go to the Anusarn Night Market, and the Sunday Night Market, which was super helpful. Our stay also included free breakfast, which consisted of a decent buffet with a lot of options. The restaurant/lounge also had good appetizers (we didn't eat any other meals there).
The hospitality and service at the Golden Bell hotel is amazing. The front desk staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. The housekeeping staff go over and above to make your stay comfortable. The hotel is located 10-15 mins waking distance to all the city attractions and 20-25 mins walking distance to the night market and restaurant along the river. I would highly recommend staying at the golden bell hotel.
"Nice, clean hotel close to the Chiang mai gate.
Very energetic helpful staff. Very clean facility. The hotel welcome book does dwell on several pages of potential charges for stains and missing items but our only minor charge was for mistakenly taking the water from the mini bar (my bad) for 60 baht($2.40) which the staff left a bill for on the day of the mistake. They do provide 2 bottles/day on the desk
The hotel is in a fairly quiet street with some chickens roosters and dogs in adjacent yards to tell you when to get up.
The continental? breakfast was comprised of instant coffee, powdered milk, toast, jam, pineapple and watermelon.
We made that acceptable by purchasing sliced ham and cheese slices to put on the toast. There is an excellent breaky /coffee place 1 block away for excellent food (Bloom) also in the Walled city "Dash" is fantastic for L+D.
The front staff lock up at 11 pm but are on site for late night partiers through a side door.
A fair price from the airport is 200 baht($8.00) per vehicle but we overpaid on arriving at midnight-400 baht.
Hotel was pleasant and some of the staff were very helpful and polite, especially the restaurant staff, but reception staff at night, need to be more helpful and the occasional smile, wouldn`t go amiss. The room was nice, with a small balcony, overlooking the pool, would consider staying here again, but after some of the staff, have had some customer related training.
We've stayed here at least 5 times before, it's in a quiet back street but is within 3 minutes walk to Wualai rd for yellow. red and blue buses, 6 minutes walk and your at Chiang Mai gate (south gate) for food, drink and local markets.
Staff are friendly and will do what they can once they understand what you want.
The hotel is an old apartment block, renovated in 2012, however now that the reality of low occupancy rates have set in the owners are neglecting maintenance, the A/C in our room only had 1 fan speed (slow) and no adjustment of any setting including temperature would make any difference. As it was very hot every day +40c the A/C was ineffective.
The WIFI network in the hotel is good, however the internet connection is not, for the last 4 days we were there the internet worked for maybe 5 or 10 minutes total, we ended up using a local internet SIM card.
As our plane left at 4.50pm and as they were not busy a late check out was not a problem.
Even with these shortcomings it is still reasonably good value.
