Visit the Tornado Tower, a remarkable skyscraper in Doha. This tall and elegant building was given its name because of its distinctive twisted design, which looks like the movement of a whirlwind or tornado.
Notice another interesting feature of the building, the crisscrossed steel latticework, which is clearly inspired by traditional Islamic geometric patterns. At night, the tower grabs the attention even more, as it is illuminated in a variety of different colors against the night sky.
Completed in 2008, the Tornado Tower was built by a team of German and Qatari architects. Its 54 floors consist mainly of office spaces, with each floor offering incredible 360-degree panoramic views.
The building has other attractive features, including a recreation floor with a spa, restaurant and cafés, as well as a helipad on the roof. Take one of the 16 passenger elevators to travel between the different floors they move at a breathtaking speed of two floors per second.
Stop for coffee at one of the cafés at the foot of the tower. Sit at a table on the pavement outside, where you can relax amid skyscrapers and watch the comings and goings of local residents and tourists along the Corniche. You can also enjoy a meal or a snack in the popular sushi restaurant at the base of the tower. Stroll through the area at night when many of the area’s tall buildings are beautifully illuminated.
The Tornado Tower is free to visit. Located in the West Bay area of the city, it is close to many of the city’s other interesting landmark buildings, including the Burj Doha and Palm Towers. Nearby are several top hotels, including the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and the Four Seasons Hotel Doha.
Drive here or travel by metro to get to the West Bay neighborhood. Stop at DECC station north of the tower or West Bay QIC to the west.
