Bate and Switch

Posted 29-Apr-2017
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, rooms are spacious and the grounds are well manicured.
Cons: Be a little more explicit about weekend weddings.
Location: On location is a great pub and restaurant. Tetbury is a wonderful village with lots to offer in the way of shops and antiques.
This is a beautiful hotel and as the adds suggest, "relax, eat and sleep. That’s all you have to do when you come to The Hare and Hounds. Leave the hectic routine of every day life in your car. Everybody’s welcome." Advertising is accurate except for one thing. These conditions only apply on Mondays through Thursday. Forget it if you think you can enjoy a quiet indulgent weekend as this location, as it turns into party central. The major portion of this hotels business is weddings, but the truth of the matter is that quiet weekends and weddings do not mix on this site. We were very disappointed by the loud music that went on until midnight. The lack of parking due to all the wedding guests taking up all the available hotel parking. The noise from drunk weddding guests and the noise from wedding deliveries. I took my issues up with the management who quickly pointed out that all there reservations contain a statement that weddings are held at the facility on weekends. You can read into that comment what ever you may? They are not at all explicit about the down side of a weekend booking when a wedding is taking place. We were given the offer of a price reduction as compensation but when the manager saw the rate we had received through Expedia and as much as insinuated that we were lucky to be there at the room rate we were received, regular rates were considerably more than we were paying. He did however remove one of our restaurant charges.

Amazing spot for a Weekend away

Posted 17-Apr-2017
Everything was great, bountiful breakfast in a beautiful room, log fire in the quiet library area, well kept gardens, building with a bit of character, helpful and accomodating staff and a room with everything you would expect. Would recommend to family and friends.

Lovely building and countryside

Posted 30-Mar-2017
Pros: The character of the building
Cons: Given the time of year the 'library' could have been warmer, and the roaring fire in the nearby room was always occupied by other guests.
Location: Close to the arboretum.
Expedia charged us over 40% more than if I had booked direct at the hotel! Otherwise everything was fine. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room facilities were excellent. There is a wonderful offer on champagne on Fridays.

Beautiful hotel

Posted 22-Mar-2017
The check in was very good & quick & the staff friendly. the rooms are excellent. Very spacious and clean. I found the bed rather hard. We ate in the pub on our first night. It seemed as though all the staff were new. The service wasn't great and they all looked flustered & weren't very friendly. There was food all over the floor by the table next to us which wasn't pleasant. I only had cheese & biscuits which you can't really go wrong with however the rest of my families meals were mediocre. There is a lovely fire place with just candles in. It would be nice to have had the fire lit. the breakfast was out of this world. Absolutely delicious & lots of choices. But again the staff were very unfriendly & very serious! We didn't see any of them smile at all. We loved the hotel & grounds but the staff in the restaurants need to chill out a bit & be more friendly.

Peaceful weekend break

Posted 09-Mar-2017
Pros: The peaceful location, the polite staff, the hot tub in our garden, the spacious Magnolia suite, the enjoyable breakfast ,the afternoon tea.
Cons: Air conditioning, instructions on regulating water temperature in hot tub, request for turn down service not to be overlooked twice.
Location: Peaceful and right next to Westonbirt Arboretum.
The Magnolia suite was spacious, comfortable and cosy with its own private garden and hot tub, which we loved, despite it being February. Breakfast was very good with polite waiting staff and a large variety of choices. We enjoyed afternoon tea in our room.

Too expensive to cover up some basic flaws

Posted 12-Dec-2016
Pros: Our eventual room was clean and the view was lovely
Cons: Attention to detail. Spacing in restaurant
Location: Short walk (better to drive) to Westonbirt Arboretum.
We arrived to find our twin room was simply a kingsize bed with single duvets ! We were told the restaurant was full until 9. We turned up early on the offchance and were told they had a cancellation of 6 people and could "fit us in" - on entering the dining room it was literally half empty ! It remained half empty with all guests were squashed into 1 end. We sent back a glass of wine for being warm and 2 glasses of champagne for being flat.
