Great Hotel, shame about the restaurant

Posted 12-Nov-2015 on Hotels
We stayed with you for 3 nights, your staff were extremely helpful making sure we had a WC that could take my husbands toilet frame as he had had a knee operation and arranged 2 chairs in the room. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The bathroom requires up dating but was clean and serviceable and your chamber maids very thorough. The breakfast was excellent and well above average with a great variety of food and the seating very comfortable. The only thing that was disappointing was the restaurant. The portions were miniscule, A small portion of pork with only one small piece of broccoli, 3 round pieces of carrot and a piece of leek plus 2 baked potatoes. My husband sat there expecting a dish of vegetables to no avail. Luckily I am a small eater so he had half of my mixed grill. We did not stop for desert as we thought we would have difficulty finding it on the plate. We had a meal in the bar and this was not much better, nice steak but little with it. We would quite happily return but would dine elsewhere of an evening

Grand public areas - shabby room

Posted 04-Nov-2015 on Hotels
Stayed to see friends in the area. The hotel reception is very grand, and most of the public areas are well appointed. However, the room was very tired - peeling wallpaper, mould under the window, worn metalwork in the bathroom. It had been fully cleaned, but just felt shabby. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Just felt let down by the room.

The hotel is out dated and needs investment, I paid £98 for one evening for business I would never stay here again. The room I stayed in was damp and smelt of mould. Until they undertake some investment in the hotel - avoid! The only positive point is the staff are very friendly and nice.

nice position with easy access to city centre

Pros: The setting and pleasant interior
Cons: The eggs and sausages at breakfast had been ore cooked and had become dry. We suggest cooking in smaller batches, preferably with eggs cooked to order
A really good 3 star hotel, with excellent leisure complex and large, comfortable room. It is set in pleasant gardens in a quiet area just on the edge of town. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

Good service and breakfast but a noisy room

Posted 30-Sep-2015 on Hotels
Check-in was good, as were the directions to the hotel all the way from the A14. The room was spacious enough, with adequate tea and coffee making facilities and, I was pleased to see, a bath. However, the walls seemed rather thin, and my bathroom was plagued with an incessant plumbing squeal. I had earplugs with me and know that I would not have slept well without them. On the plus side, breakfast was good; varied items and plenty to eat, although as a vegetarian I felt I had to get my food as early as possible in case the serving spoons had inadvertently been contaminated by meat dishes; the eggs etc were all laid out right beside sausages, bacon etc.

We'll be back

Posted 12-Sep-2015
Pros: Our room ,the friendly atmosphere, comfy beds having a table and chairs in the spacious room, the leisure facilities and the garden and the bar meals
Cons: Service in the Restaurant, the dining room lacked atmosphere. the carpet in our room was stained. the lockers in the changing room, the spin dryer
Location: Good location for A12and A14, Jimmy's Farm is nearby, Aldbourgh Snape and Southwold pier, plus numerous gardens, aircraft and steam museums Sutton Hoo
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the room was spacious and on the ground floor it was in the superior category and over looked the garden, with all the small details that enhance your stay e.g. iron and board in the room, fan already set up for you. the chambermaids were friendly and cheery , unfortunately the waiting staff had to be prompted at every stage of our only visit to the restaurant, hence we had bar meals for the rest of our stay, the food it self was delicious. the leisure facilities are good with a nice view of the gardens from the swimming pool, spa bath and sauna, we felt like we were coming home when we returned at each evening. no where is perfect the were signs of wear and tear in the changing rooms, but that's a fault that I could easily put up with. we would recommend this hotel and can't wait to stay again
