Not the Ritz, but clean and ten times cheaper!

Posted 21-Feb-2017
Booked very last minute and got a room for £40. Quite a reasonable price. The room was comfortable but a bit shabby. I had a meal which was good. Sat in the bar which had a distinct retirement home feel to it and then swiftly headed upstairs. Checked out about 5ish the following morning. The only staff available had little or no idea of what they were supposed to do. In fact they stood there arguing over how much my bill actually was!! Luckily £30 man won...and £62 man went off in a bit of a huff. But all sorted in the end. No real complaints as long as you're not expecting it to be a big treat.

Recommend by friends as easy location to meet them

Sumptuous entrance let down by steps. Grand aspirations let down by pokey dining rooms with over large furniture. Bed comfortable and room of decent standard, but en suite bathroom past it's useful life expectancy. Room 309 backs onto the swimming pool and suffers from a fan/pump noise 24/7. Dine in the bar for a more honest experience.

This was the 6th time we have been to Belstead Brook, and the last, staff & rooms fine, Food not good, Saturday evening meal several complaints from other guests, the big issue was breakfast the following morning, all the help yourself cooked breakfast food was COLD.

Well priced comfortable hotel

Posted 13-Dec-2016
Building looks great as you arrive with scenic grounds. Helpful welcoming staff. Room decor in good condition and clean room. Use of gym and pool were included - it was nice to relax in jacuzzi in the evening. Sampled the room service and food was tasty. Only problem was that phone in room wasn't working

Great find

Last minute booking and alerted reception to my late arrival who kindly arranged to have hot food delivered to my room after the kitchen was closed. Very much appreciated

Our stay was to enable us to attend a rugby festival at St Joseph's College. The room was comfortable but we missed complementary bottles of water which most other hotels provide. The bathroom functioned properly but is badly in need of an upgrade as it looked as if it had not been changed in the last 20 years. The bar meal was very good but last orders at 9.30 p.m. meant me had to miss the last of the rugby match on Friday evening to get back in time to order something to eat. We didn't have breakfast as we had to leave early each morning. The lady on Reception was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome.

False health & hygiene rating displayed

Posted 12-Oct-2016 on Hotels
Belstead Brook displayed an old health & hygiene rating for the restaurant on the front entrance of five stars. This is years out of date and they actually have a three star rating. Although the front entrance at first impression seems very posh and over the top, the rest of the hotel is very scruffy in places. The first room we were given was dirty with peeling wallpaper, dirty carpet and a very old bathroom with tiles only just hanging on the wall. All the bedrooms in the same area seemed to be in a sad state. The corridor and the doors to the bedrooms looked battered and bruised. The second room we were given was a little better but not great. Second visit here. Last time was three years ago, had just been taken over, needs to have some investment to make it into the hotel it deserves to be. Will not be back unless the rooms are sorted.
