Lovely hotel - a bit old fashioned though.

Posted 27-Nov-2016
Pros: Location, furnishing and staff.
Cons: Improve spa facilities - fitness room and steam room.
Location: Beautiful location, great for walking. Sidmouth is a lovely old English town.
It is a lovely hotel, fantastically located, beautifully furnished, very friendly and helpful staff. On the less positive side. It's a spa hotel with no fitness facilities or a steam room which I would expect to see. Formal dress code in main restaurant personally I find old-fashioned. I dress formally for work and thus prefer not to in my spare time. Fried breakfast is too expensive when a delightful cafe overlooking the beach is around 200 yards down the road does the same for 40% of the price. That said, we had a lovely time.

First class hotel

Posted 13-Sep-2016
Pros: The food,the service,the quiet,in fact everything.
Cons: Perhaps some handles by the bath for older people.
Location: Right at the end of the esplanade, plenty of small businesses and some well known ones as well, just a couple of minutes walk away.
Beautiful Edwardian building in its own grounds, with views of bay and town.wonderful lounge full of sofas and easy chairs or there's the sun lounge over looking the garden to the sea.

2 days of modest dissapointment

Hotel overpriced for what we received. They did not include breakfast . For 235 pounds the room was smaller then I thought it would be. The overall experience was moderate.

Nice hotel, but early wake-up noise!

Posted 07-Jun-2016
A return weekend getaway to the hotel where my wife said "yes" to my marriage proposal! Almost all things you'd expect from a 4* hotel, but they put us in room 101 and got woken up around 6am each morning by mechanical noise (extractors from kitchen or A/C?). Complained after 1st night and was assured it was a water pump that they could turn off, so they didn't offer us an alternative room. Other than that slip-up, staff very attentive. Just don't let them put you in room 101, which is on corner above all the service rooms/kitchen.

November w/end

Posted 30-Nov-2015
Pros: The location, the staff, the overall condition of the hotel and the catering.
Cons: The room heating could be more easily adjusted. The room temperatures are kept quite high for the older guests.
Location: Overlooking the beach, about 8 mins walk from the centre of Sidmouth. In November most summer attractions are closed but the nearby walks are excellent
A very comfortable hotel close to the beach and town. It was fully decorated for Xmas and looked lovely. The pool and spa looked excellent although we didn't use it. The food was very good.

Very nice hotel, welcoming staff, comfortable bed, very good breakfast which gets double thumbs up from us as it had limitless smoked salmon on the buffet!

Very impressed

Beautiful hotel. Great facilities, helpful staff and excellent food. My only disappointment was that the single room I was in was very small and very hot. There was no aircon and the window could only open a fraction. A fan was available and left in the wardrobe so they had thought about the issue.
