Sail back into Southampton’s rich nautical past at this state-of-the-art museum created to mark the 100-year anniversary of RMS Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage.

The SeaCity Museum opened in 2012 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the departure of the ill-fated RMS Titanic from Southampton. The museum is home to two permanent exhibitions, the first of which pays homage to the Titanic disaster. The second celebrates Southampton’s historical role as the gateway to the sea-going world.

Explore Southampton’s Titanic Story, which recounts those dramatic events of 1912 from the perspective of the city and its inhabitants, many of whom served as crew members aboard the ship. Relive the subsequent British inquiry into the catastrophe and decide for yourself who or what was to blame. Listen to haunting audio clips of the survivors and participate in an interactive tool allowing you to steer the virtual ship.

Visit the Gateway to the World exhibition to find out about Southampton’s role as a major port. The display focuses on the history of the seaside city and the role it played in worldwide exploration, migration and trade. Model ship enthusiasts will love the one-ton replica of the RMS Queen Mary.

Call into the pavilion to see temporary exhibitions, which focus on a mixture of art and history.

The museum is open every day including public holidays from morning until late afternoon. There is an entrance fee concessions are available for students, seniors and families. Children under five years of age enter free.

SeaCity Museum is housed in a striking, state-of-the-art building. The museum is located in the centre of Southampton near Watts Park and East Park, and is right next door to the city’s main art gallery, library, city hall and university. Southampton Central Railway Station is a short walk from the museum, or you can take a bus from most parts of the city to a stop right outside.
